About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about The Old Windmill – it's one of those pubs that just wraps you up in its history and charm the moment you step inside. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the real stars are the fantastic selection of ales and beers; you could spend ages trying them all, and the staff are always on hand with a friendly tip or two. The place has this wonderful old-world feel with its timber frames and roaring fires, making it ideal for a cosy catch-up when the weather turns. They've got events like live music and cheese nights that keep the vibe lively, and it's clear folks keep coming back for that authentic pub experience. On the flip side, it's mostly cold food on offer, like pork pies, so if you're craving a hot meal, you might need to look elsewhere. And do watch out for that 15-minute walk from the station or the quirky floors that add to the charm but could trip you up. All in all, it's a top spot if you're after good drinks and a relaxed, welcoming setting, but it's worth knowing what you're getting into for a balanced night out.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The selection of ales and beers is absolutely fantastic, with a brilliant range of local and international options that really hit the spot.
-
It's got that quintessential old pub charm, with timber frames, low beams, uneven floors, and cosy fires that make you feel right at home on a chilly evening.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and informative, always ready with a chat or a recommendation to enhance your visit.
-
They host a variety of events like live music, cheese nights, book clubs, and beer festivals, which add a lively buzz and keep things interesting.
-
The atmosphere is welcoming and quirky, perfect for popping in for a quick drink or settling in for a longer session.
Cons
-
Food options are limited to cold items like pork pies and ploughman's platters, so if you're after something hot like chips, you might be out of luck.
-
It's a bit of a walk from the railway station – about 15 minutes – which could be a minor hassle if you're not up for it.
-
The uneven floors and low beams might not suit everyone, especially if you're taller or prefer a smoother surface underfoot.

Found this place while out for a walk from my hotel. Visited 3 days in succession. Fantastic old pub. Great selection of ales. Amazing side rooms. Great looking ploughmans (unfortunately I didn't get a chance to taste), amazing selection of cheeses, great staff who were friendly & informative. This pub is a real jem.
Is this the quintessential pub in Coventry? Such character! A variety of local and international beers but only food is served cold. No chips (fries) would be a deal breaker most days but the Old Windmill’s charm and old world character more than make up for it. We had a half a pork pie and a serving of Cranberry Welneysdale cheese, washed down by a local stout and Old Peculiar.
Best pub in the city, hands down.
Best kept beer/ale in Cov with a brilliant range... plus three proper fires, pork pies and ploughman's platters. Low beams and uneven floors...
Long live the old windmill!
Very good timber-framed pub about fifteen minutes walk from Coventry railway station. Seven cask beers on handpump when I visited including a porter. A few tables outside at the front.

We love popping in for a drink in front of one of the fireplaces now the weather has turned too. Really quirky place with a great atmosphere.
