About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about the Gatehouse Tavern – it's one of those pubs that just wraps you up in a cosy hug the moment you walk through the door. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks are raving about the friendly welcomes and that homely vibe with its vintage touches, making it feel like a step back in time in the best way. The drinks are spot on too; they've got a great range of ales and wines at prices that won't break the bank, and it's always a treat to pull up a stool and chat away. Plus, the outdoor garden is brilliant for when the weather's on your side, giving you plenty of space to relax. On the flip side, it's a short trek from the station, so if you're not up for a walk, it might not be the easiest spot to pop into. And while most reviews are glowing, that one slightly lower rating suggests it could be a tad traditional for some, but overall, it's a solid choice for a good night out without any fuss. I'd say it's well worth checking out if you're after a genuine, down-to-earth pub experience in Coventry.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely charming and welcoming, with a vintage-inspired decor that makes you feel right at home as soon as you step in.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and provide top-notch service – it's like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of well-kept ales, wines, and ciders at reasonable prices, like a pint for just £4.00 or a medium wine for £4.40.
  • Loads of outdoor seating in a spacious garden, perfect for enjoying a drink al fresco on a sunny day.
  • It's a lively spot with events like open mic nights, adding to the fun and community vibe.
Cons
  • It's a bit of a walk from Coventry railway station – about 20 minutes – which might not suit everyone if you're in a rush.
  • With the reviews available, it seems mostly brilliant, but that one 4-star rating hints it might not hit the mark perfectly for all tastes, perhaps if you're after something more modern.

I recently visited Gatehouse Tavern and was thoroughly impressed with the atmosphere, food, and drink selection. The vintage-inspired decor and friendly staff created a warm, inviting environment that made me feel right at home. Drinks selection was good and food arrived promptly, the service was attentive and friendly. As a beer enthusiast, I was thrilled to find a wide variety of draft and bottled options, with a focus on local craft brews. The beer selection, combined with their well-curated menu, makes Gatehouse Tavern an excellent destination for anyone who appreciates good food and drink. Overall, my experience at Gatehouse Tavern was truly enjoyable, and I look forward to returning soon to explore more of their menu and beer offerings. P.S. They had live music which started late thus missed it, but surely something to look forward to

We stopped off at the Gatehouse Tavern for a couple of drinks before we headed back to the hotel and it was nice to find a good old-fashioned pub👍 We went on the Thursday night and they had an open microphone 🎤 Andrew, the barman was very friendly 👍 If you’re coming to Coventry and you just want to have a few drinks with a good atmosphere in a good old-fashioned pub, then this is the place for you 😎

Very good pub about twenty minutes walk from Coventry railway station. Six cask ales - and one cider - on handpump when I visited including a mild. Loads of outdoor seating in the very large garden to the rear some of it covered. The pub was rebuilt by the landlord from the shell of the former Leigh Mills gatehouse.
