About This Pub
Ah, Tom Tiddlers Tavern – it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper old-school hideaway in Stevenage, you know? From what I've gathered from folks' chats online, the staff are absolute gems; they go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome, and it's especially heartening to hear how they're so accommodating for anyone with accessibility needs. The beer can be a real winner when it's on form – reasonably priced and well-poured – and if you happen to drop in on a day with live music, like a singer getting the crowd involved, it turns into a right laugh. But, let's be straight, it's not all roses; some have mentioned a musty smell of stale beer lingering about, and there've been gripes about flies making an appearance, which isn't ideal for settling in with a drink. Then there's the odd time when the atmosphere feels a tad frosty from other regulars, or the beer just doesn't hit the spot, leaving you wanting to head elsewhere. All in all, it's a solid spot for a casual get-together if you're up for a bit of an adventure, but I'd say it's worth checking out on a good day to get the best of it.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly welcoming and make you feel right at home, which really adds to the cosy vibe.
-
They've got reasonably priced beer that's well-kept, perfect for a relaxed pint with mates.
-
Live entertainment, like the occasional singer, can make for a brilliant afternoon out.
-
It's a traditional 'spit and sawdust' sort of place that some folks absolutely love for its authentic feel.
-
The team goes out of their way to be helpful, especially for those with accessibility needs, which is a nice touch.
Cons
-
On some visits, there's a strong whiff of stale beer that can put you off before you've even ordered.
-
It's had issues with flies buzzing about, which doesn't make for the most pleasant atmosphere.
-
The crowd can sometimes feel a bit unwelcoming, like you're intruding on someone else's space.
-
The beer quality isn't always spot on, with a few reports of it not tasting great.
-
It's a bit of a mixed bag overall, so you might have a fantastic time one day and a disappointing one the next.

spit and sawdust pub. My cup of tea.
Great afternoon. We unexpectedly chose a day where there was a live singer. He was fantastic. He engaged with the crowd, particularly with our party.
When we visited the bar smelt strongly of stale beer and was populated by more flies than customers.
Those customers that were there acted as though we had trespassed on private property.
The beer was not pleasant and we left quickly without finishing it. I shall not visit it again.
It seems that since I last visited the pub is under new management and is getting better reviews, I have put it up 1 point and I will visit again to give it a chance.
Watch this space!
Fantastic pub, Stephen and Vicky are lovely and always make you feel welcome. They have transformed the Tiddlers.
As someone that's Partially sighted, I find the pub a delight and the staff always helpful.
Great beer warm welcome friendly pub, what more do you want 😀
Visited the pub as part of a darts team. Made to feel very welcome. Beer is reasonably priced and more importantly kept well.
