About This Pub
Ah, The Old Cock – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its charm and that unbeatable selection of well-kept ales from smaller breweries, making it a must-visit if you're a fan of a good pint. I love how they've got everything from classic options to quirky ones like rhubarb cider, and the staff are always so approachable, chatting away as if you're old mates. The atmosphere is spot on too, with that traditional feel in the heart of Otley that makes you want to linger over a drink. On the flip side, though, the toilet arrangements could do with a rethink; it's a shame that the ladies' one doubles as the disabled option and sees a lot of foot traffic, which might put some off, and having to head upstairs for the men's can be inconvenient. Still, despite those little drawbacks, it's a place I'd happily recommend for a lively catch-up with friends, as long as you're prepared for a bit of a crowd on busier nights. All in all, it's got that winning mix of quality brews and a friendly buzz that keeps folks coming back.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The selection of real ales is absolutely top-notch, with ever-changing options from independent breweries that make every visit feel like a new adventure.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and a good chat to make you feel right at home.
-
It's got that cosy, traditional pub vibe with a great atmosphere, perfect for sinking into a comfy spot after a long day.
-
They've won awards like the Leeds CAMRA Pub of the Year, which really shows they're doing something special with their beers and overall experience.
Cons
-
The toilet setup can be a bit of a hassle, especially for women, as the ladies' one is shared with the disabled facilities and gets a fair bit of use from others.
-
It tends to get quite busy at times, which might make it tricky to find a seat or enjoy a quiet pint if you're after a more relaxed evening.
-
Some areas, like the upstairs seating and men's toilets, require climbing stairs, which isn't ideal for everyone, particularly if mobility is an issue.

Lovely pub with lots of well-kept ales!
Also funky stuff like the delicious rhubarb cider…!
Good pub with nice selection of beers, however is not well accommodated for female pub goers. Unfortunately the only ladies toilet is shared with the only disabled toilet so is accessed by those who simply do not want to walk up stairs to use the men’s. (This was observed many times during our visit.) The only female toilet doesn’t have a sanitary bin, but has a pedal bin on the other side of the room. Slightly inconvenient for those who require it, and not very hygienic. A shame for such a quaint pub. Maybe they forget that females drink beer too.
What a pub, great selection of ales. In fact too many for the short time we had so I drank halves to try as many as possible. All well kept and most were completely new to me.
This is a beer enthusiast pub.
Lots of choices.
Great atmosphere, very busy .
We didn't eat.
Traditional feel but with a bar atmosphere.
Will come back to sample more .
Mens toilet is upstairs and so is additional seating, there is a disabled toilet downstairs.
This was our first pub of the day and it didn't disappoint. 18th century pub kept up well. Lots of beer choices. I had a Tinderbox West Coast IPA 6.3% from Fell Brewery out of Cumbria. The staff was very nice and the toilets were clean.
