About This Pub

Ah, The Wych Elm – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local favourite, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is where it really shines; folks rave about the Sunday roasts, with everything from perfectly cooked pork belly to tasty beef and even ace Yorkshire puds. It's all about those generous servings and the fact they've got options for veggies and vegans, which is brilliant if you're dining with a mixed group. The staff come across as genuinely lovely, always ready with a smile and quick to help out, whether it's fetching a treat for your dog or tweaking a dish to suit. That garden area's a winner too – imagine chilling out back there on a sunny afternoon, or cosying up inside when the weather turns. It's got that easy-going Sunday feel that makes you want to linger over a drink. On the flip side, it's a bit of a shame it's shut on Mondays and Tuesdays, so if you're planning a spontaneous mid-week outing, you might have to look elsewhere. And while the prices are fair for what you get, it might not be the cheapest spot if you're just popping in for a quick one. Overall, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the Kingston area – it's got that homely charm that keeps people coming back, and from the glowing reviews, it sounds like they've nailed the balance of good grub, great service, and a welcoming vibe.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot-on, especially those Sunday roasts – think tender pork belly, juicy beef, and generous portions that leave you satisfied.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always going the extra mile to accommodate any needs, like sorting out water and treats for your furry friends.
  • It's got a lovely relaxed vibe, with both cosy indoor seating and a wonderful garden area perfect for soaking up the sun or enjoying a family gathering.
  • They offer great options for everyone, including vegetarian and vegan choices, and even smaller portions if you're not after a full feast.
  • With a solid 4.7 rating from heaps of happy visitors, it's clear this place knows how to deliver a top-notch pub experience.
Cons
  • It's only open five days a week, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, which might cramp your style if you're after a mid-week pint or meal.
  • As a moderately priced spot, it could feel a tad steep for everyday visits, especially if you're on a budget and fancy something more casual.

Lovely roast lunch on Sunday. The pork belly was delicious, not too fatty at all. Roast beef was tender and tasty. Generous portions. Very helpful and friendly staff. Booked after reading other positive reviews. Would definitely come back again.

We recently enjoyed a Sunday roast in the back garden of the Wych Elm. The staff were friendly and attentive and rushed to provide our dog with water and treats upon arrival. Thank you for being so thoughtful. The pub atmosphere was a relaxed Sunday vibe. The food was excellent - the medium rare roast beef advertised was actually cooked medium rare!. The portions were generous with a good selection of vegetables. The garden is well tended and maintained. There was plenty of shade even for a sunny afternoon. Thanks for a great Sunday afternoon experience.

The Wych Elm is our favourite local pub. The food is always spot-on, the staff are super friendly and always accommodate any specific needs or wishes. We love sitting in their wonderful pub garden just as much as in their cosy interior seating areas. A great spot for a nice family meal or a gathering with friends. The atmosphere is always very communal and friendly

Lovely Sunday chicken roasts! Staff are very friendly and service was fast. The roasts can be ordered as a smaller portion too. Great yorkshire puddings. Both indoor and outdoor seating available. Vegetarian and vegan options offered on the menu.

Great local pub with a lovely garden at the back. Food was delicious and the friendly staff were very helpful and attentive. No surprise that they were runners up in the LOYA competition this year. Will definitely be going back. ...and here we are back again in April 2023. The food and service is still excellent and they have a piano, so my 98 year old mother-in-law couldn't resist having a go!
