The Woodman Pub in Birmingham

Ah, The Woodman Pub – what a lovely spot it is in the heart of Birmingham. I have to say, popping in feels like discovering a hidden gem that's been polished up nicely. They've done an incredible job with the renovation, highlighting those original features that give it such a warm, historical feel while keeping things modern and inviting. The beers and ales are standout; I tried the draught Bass on my visit and it was a real delight, especially with that great selection of whiskies to choose from too. And the food? Well, the shepherd's pie was spot on – proper comforting pub grub that pairs perfectly with a pint. The staff are just brilliant, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly. On the downside, there's that HS2 construction going on nearby, which can make the surroundings a bit messy and noisy, so it might not be the most peaceful outing. Still, it's only a quick ten-minute walk from Moor Street station, so it's easy enough to get to. All in all, if you're after a traditional pub with a twist and don't mind a bit of hustle around the edges, I'd definitely recommend giving it a go – it's got that genuine, friendly atmosphere that'll make you want to come back for more.
