Eagle & Ball, Gopsal St, Birmingham B4 7RJ

About This Pub

Ah, the Eagle & Ball in Birmingham – it's one of those places that just warms you up from the get-go. From the reviews, the staff really shine, particularly Liv, who's getting all sorts of praise for being an absolute gem behind the bar. Pair that with some seriously good food, like burgers that folks are calling the best they've had, and you've got a spot that's ideal for a relaxed catch-up or a quick bite. The atmosphere is spot-on too, making it feel like you're among mates rather than just in a pub. It's got that historic Victorian charm reborn in Eastside, which adds a nice touch. On the downside, there was this one review where things went south – unfriendly service and a burger that didn't live up to the hype, so it might not be perfect every time. Plus, with it only open on weekdays, you might have to plan around that if you're not free during the week. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and a chat, but I'd say go in with an open mind and maybe check the timings first to avoid any disappointments.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant, especially Liv who's a real standout behind the bar – everyone seems to love her friendly and efficient service.
  • The food is a winner, with burgers getting rave reviews as some of the best around, making it a top spot for a satisfying meal.
  • It has a warm, welcoming atmosphere that feels like a second home, perfect for turning friends into family over a few drinks.
  • Tucked away in the heart of Birmingham's Eastside, it's a great little spot that's easy to pop into after work or an event.
Cons
  • There can be inconsistent service, as one experience was quite off-putting with unhelpful staff and disappointing food.
  • Opening hours are limited to weekdays only, which might not work for those looking to visit on weekends – it's mostly for private hire then.
  • While most visits are positive, that odd bad day could leave you waiting longer than expected or with a meal that doesn't quite hit the mark.

Lady at bar gave me really warm, welcoming energy. Placed my plate thoughtfully in front of me while I was sat across the table. Got my burger in no time and it was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. Just a great experience — never been here before, thought I’d come in on my lunch break.

Lady at bar gave me really hostile energy. Put my plate at the end of the table when I was sat across it. Waited half an hour for one of the worst burgers I’ve ever had. Just a poor experience never been here thought I’d come in on my lunch break
