About This Pub

Ah, Nortons Digbeth – it's one of those places that really captures the heart of a good night out in Birmingham, doesn't it? Picture this: you're settling in with a perfectly poured Guinness, the live music's kicking off, and the whole spot has that warm, welcoming Irish pub feel that just makes you want to stay for another round. From what I've gathered from chats and reviews, it's spot-on for enjoying top-tier entertainment, whether that's catching the big games on the screens or joining in with the weekend sessions – it's got a real community spirit that brings people together. The staff often shine through as the stars of the show, going out of their way to make sure everyone's having a laugh, especially during events or when you're there with a group. But, and I say this as a mate giving straight advice, it's not all rosy; there have been a few grumbles about service slip-ups, like getting orders wrong or dealing with pricing hiccups, which can take the edge off. And let's be honest, the food might not be the main draw – some have said it's a bit underwhelming, so maybe stick to the drinks if you're not in the mood for surprises. Overall, if you're up for a lively evening with great music and a solid pint, it's worth a visit, but keep expectations balanced for the little niggles that come with the territory.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Guinness here is hands down one of the best in Birmingham – it's creamy and spot-on, just like you'd hope for in a proper Irish bar.
  • They've got a fantastic vibe with live music every weekend, making it a brilliant spot for a night out with friends or catching up on major sports events on the big screens.
  • The staff can be absolutely top-notch; from what I've heard, they're friendly, attentive, and really know how to make you feel welcome, especially during events.
  • It's got that cosy, old-school Irish pub charm with a great atmosphere for celebrations, whether it's a birthday bash or just watching the footie.
  • Plenty of space for dancing and mingling, plus they host all sorts of events that keep things lively and inclusive.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit inconsistent at times, with some folks mentioning mix-ups in orders and issues with billing that left a sour note.
  • The food doesn't always hit the mark; for instance, a simple hotdog might not live up to expectations, which is a shame when you're looking for a decent bite alongside your pint.
  • Based on a few recent experiences, it seems like the overall service might not be as reliable as you'd want, potentially putting a damper on an otherwise fun evening.

This review is based solely on the food. I visited for the first time a couple of days ago for an event that was being hosted there. I ordered a hotdog that cost around £7 and paid a couple of quid extra to add chips with it. The image attached is what I received. It definitely wasn't a hotdog, it was barely a sausage, more like a chipolata! It was drowning in the bun it came in! Absolutely ridiculous and a total rip off. The chips were lovely though!

Awful service. Nice vibes, nice beer and actually nice food but the worst service I can remember receiving. Misheard the order originally, charged for the wrong order even after correcting it, under-refunded, I let all that slide because it probably amounted to about a pound, but then ended up in a dispute about whether we actually ordered veggie or vegan muffin because there was cheese on it. We insisted we had ordered vegan, bar staff insisted it was an order of veggie, which made no sense according to the other items on the muffin, then finally they she did a 180 and came to the conclusion we had actually ordered vegan but the cheese on the muffin was vegan cheese. There is no vegan cheese listed on the menu. Such a weird awful delivery of otherwise nice beer and food in a great bar, probably won't come back.

Amazing little secret Irish bar with free, top class live entertainment! We went in on a whim and it did not disappoint! Old school vibes in the best way, all good vibes from bar staff, security and punters. Space and to sit and dance even on a Saturday but the perfect balance of lively and cosy atmosphere in here. Good drinks menu and food is available although we didn't try on our visit. Would recommend 100%

Absolutely fantastic venue I had the pleasure of Performing at Nortons on Saturday evening as part of my Irish duo, To Hell or Verona. The staff were fantastic, Dan, the events manager, Luke the sound engineer, and all the bar team and management were first class. The crowd were brilliant and friendly too, which made for a top class atmosphere. I’d highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a cracking night out with family or friends!

Cool vibe and chilled atmosphere on a Sunday night, Sam looked after our table, I had guests with me from Serbia. They loved it ! Sam's service was second to none, both he and front of house, Mario (the wine doctor) were a great at keeping us all happy.
