About This Pub
Ah, The Wolvercote – it's one of those pubs that sounds like a real gem when you hear about its peaceful spot away from the Oxford hustle, with a welcoming beer garden and a nod to traditional vibes. I reckon it's brilliant for a laid-back afternoon with mates, sipping on those expertly crafted cask ales or trying out the classic dishes they've got on offer. The dog-friendly policy is a nice touch too, making it feel inclusive and homely. But, and I hate to say it, there've been a few grumbles lately about the food not quite hitting the mark – think overcooked roasts or underdone sides that leave you wanting more. Service has been a bit inconsistent as well, with stories of long waits and not enough staff on hand, which can really take the shine off an otherwise promising visit. Overall, it's got heaps of potential and a strong track record with that 4.2 rating, but I'd suggest checking recent feedback or maybe opting for drinks over a full meal to avoid any disappointments. Still, if you're in the area, it's worth popping in for the atmosphere alone – just go in with your eyes open and you'll likely have a decent time.
Pros and Cons

-
Friendly staff who can make you feel right at home, especially if you're after a chat and some recommendations.
-
A solid selection of cask ales and world lagers, plus classic pub grub that hits the spot when it's done well.
-
Family-oriented with plenty of space, great for gatherings or a Sunday roast if you're in the mood.
Cons
-
Food quality has been hit and miss lately, with reports of overcooked dishes, raw veggies, and even a broken oven ruining meals.
-
Service can be patchy, like long waits for orders or not enough staff around when you need them.
-
Some visits feel disappointing, with the pub seeming empty yet claiming to be fully booked, which might put a dampener on plans.
-
Recent feedback suggests it's not always living up to expectations, especially for foodies hoping for a reliable meal.
-
Despite the overall good rating, newer reviews show a dip, so it might not be the best bet for a special occasion right now.

Booked for food. arrived no one to take a drinks order.finally found one of only 3 staff to take food order after a 1/s Hour wait to be told the oven is broken so cannot do food .also told the place was fully booked yet the place was empty.i would be very cautious in booking and expecting to eat .very poor experience
Had high hopes that this pub had improved due to recent new management, but unfortunately sadly disappointed today. The beef was overcooked and dry, the green veg was overcooked and tasteless and the parsnip almost raw. Roast potatoes more like boiled potatoes. We were told that the chef had left 2 weeks ago. I don’t know why they think they can charge almost £20 for a roast and serve such poor food. Reminded me of a school dinner. Will not be going back…ever.
Absolutely terrible food. I can’t believe they thought that that was ok to serve. Whilst we were there a big group walked out without paying as their food was equally terrible. Dry, uncooked meat, over cooked chips, raw parsnips. Avoid
A couple visited for the first time and really liked it here. It's far from the city centre's fuss—calm and pleasant. We ordered two lunch sets. The blonde girl working at the bar was very welcoming and helpful.
We will definitely visit again!
What a great pub. Very dog friendly with a big beer garden. Very trendy feel to the whole place and right next to a huge meadow next to the river Thames that you can walk your dog in. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was happy and fun. Great place to bring children as there is a good park right on the opposite side of the road. Only reason it's 4 stars and not 5 stars is because the food was slightly cool when it got to us (the waitress thought we were outside but we were in the bar area) and then the red wine sauce didn't pack the flavourful punch I was expecting and it was very watery so I found that it totally let down the meal. If the sauce to the pie was thicker and had more flavour then this would of definitely had a 5/5 rating from me!!
