About This Pub
Ah, The Winter Seam, it's one of those reliable Wetherspoons spots that you can always count on for a no-fuss outing with friends. From what I've gathered, it's got that cheerful, bustling atmosphere that makes you feel right at home, especially with the friendly staff on hand to keep things running smoothly. The prices are spot on for keeping things light on the wallet, and it's conveniently placed near the railway station and racecourse, which is brilliant if you're nipping in for a pre-event pint or a post-adventure meal. Folks seem to appreciate the standard menu and the occasional guest cask ale that's fresh and enjoyable. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing – some have had a rough time with the lager tasting off, and there are stories of food that didn't sit well, like one person ending up feeling quite ill after eating. The grub's generally quick but can lack a bit of flair, just plonked on the plate as is. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening, but I'd say it's best to keep expectations realistic and maybe stick to what you know works well. If you're after something straightforward and wallet-friendly, give it a go, but keep an eye out for those little niggles that can pop up.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's incredibly affordable, making it a great spot for a budget-friendly pint or meal without breaking the bank.
-
The staff are friendly and provide solid service, which really adds to the welcoming vibe.
-
The atmosphere is lively and typical of a good Spoons pub, perfect for a casual catch-up with mates.
-
Convenient location near the railway station and Pontefract Racecourse, ideal if you're popping in before or after an event.
-
They offer the usual Spoons fare, like guest cask ales, which can be a treat when they're in top form.
Cons
-
Some drinks, like the lager, can be hit or miss – one person mentioned it was so off-putting they could barely finish a quarter of their pint.
-
Food quality varies; it's quick and straightforward, but there have been complaints about it lacking presentation and even causing upset stomachs in a couple of cases.
-
It gets busy, which is par for the course, but that might mean things feel a bit rushed at times.
-
The toilets are a trek upstairs, which isn't ideal if you're in a hurry or not up for the climb.

This is your typical wetherspoons pub, busy which you expect.
My disappointment here was the taste of the lager it's was that bad I only managed a 1/4 of the pint.
The food was ok no presentation on the plate just thrown on but you go here for fast turnaround on food so get it.
The service at the bar was fast and the staff were pleasant
Atmosphere was great and so was the service but the food was so good until it wasn’t. Got home 2 hours later after revising with a friend i’ve drank water, sun glasses on, nothing else to eat wasn’t in the sun and violently threw up multiple times. Then i realised that 5 mins after i ordered my chicken food it came and probably should have checked the inside but i didn’t. Very upset and appalled today because i’m now double poorly
Cheap and cheerful, and good quality for the price. Friendly staff and good service.
Predominantly a Spoons for dining at with their usual fare on sale. There’s still guest cask ale and the Mysticale is fresh on and in great condition. So handy for the railway station and a short walk along a bridal way to Pontefract Racecourse
Popped in for a refreshment, to use the toilet facilities, and a sit for a minute.
Nice layout, perfect selfie toilets ( female toilets)
Not much to say as we didn't stay too long.
Typical Spoons toilets, miles away upstairs.
Children's colouring sheets and crayons available.
Not too busy, we were able to get a good seat.
Some interesting artwork on the walls and old pictures which I like to look at
