About This Pub

Ah, The Royal Oak – it's one of those reliable local spots that just feels like home from the moment you walk in. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's all about that genuine pub atmosphere where you can kick back with a decent pint and enjoy the company. The staff come across as super welcoming, and it's brilliant that they've got those roaring fires going, making it perfect for a cosy afternoon or evening, especially if you've got your dog in tow. Prices are fair too, so you can have a good time without worrying about the tab. On the flip side, it's not the place for anything too fancy – one person mentioned the lack of cask ales, which is a bit of a shame if that's your thing, and overall, it sticks to the basics rather than trying to impress with bells and whistles. Still, with a solid 4.4 rating from folks who've been there, it's clear this pub does what it sets out to do well, making it a top pick for anyone after an honest, no-nonsense night out in Castleford.

Pros and Cons

  • Drinks are reasonably priced, so you won't break the bank for a night out
  • It's got those cosy roaring fires that add a lovely warm touch, especially on a chilly day
  • Dog-friendly vibes mean you can bring your furry friend along for the fun
  • The pub's been freshly refurbished to a high standard, giving it a clean and inviting feel
Cons
  • No cask ales on offer, which might disappoint if you're after something a bit more traditional
  • It's pretty straightforward and nothing fancy, so if you're looking for upscale vibes, it might not hit the mark

Very welcoming on a cold Sunday afternoon. We're happy for us to bring our 2 small dogs and we enjoyed a couple of hours, sat in front of the open fire watching football. Really nice atmosphere, drinks are reasonably priced and they've done the place out nice. We will be back. 👍

Friendly pub with roaring fires x 2. No cask ales on though which was a shame for us. Guinness seemed decent though. Getting refurbished soon apparently
