Stumbled across this gem while searching for a last-minute Sunday lunch and couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised. I'm not local to the area, so I can’t compare it to nearby options—but this must surely be one of the standout spots for food and drink.
The pub itself has a charming, residential, very local feel—no frills, just a warm, welcoming atmosphere. That said, the quality of the food, service, and drinks is absolutely on par with what you'd expect from a high-end gastropub.
We ordered three individual roasts—pork, chicken, and beef—and all were excellent. It’s one thing to serve a decent roast (most people are used to their mum’s), but it’s another to genuinely elevate it. This did. The vegetables were fresh, vibrant, and perfectly cooked. The pork, in particular, was sensational—juicy, full of flavour, and cooked to perfection.
The wine selection was also fantastic, and service throughout was spot-on—attentive and friendly without being overbearing. We were served by the owner, who was both charming and genuinely engaging, which added a lovely personal touch to the whole experience.
In short, this is a clean, simple setting with a relaxed vibe that focuses on getting the essentials right: great food, quality drinks, and excellent service. It’s a welcome reminder of just how good a truly independent, locally owned establishment can be.
Went for Sunday lunch and liked the whole experience very much, I'd recommend it. Run by a nice young couple, the pub is a tribute to the neighbourhood with photos of locals and historic images on the walls. It's a friendly pub with a feeling of personal service and care in the cooking. We really enjoyed the Sunday lunch and will definitely return again for more. My favourite pub lunch in the area.
We went for lunch on Easter Sunday and the food was exceptional. I had trout with crushed baby potatoes, pea velouté and samphire and it looked and tasted fantastic. The pork belly bites for starters were beautifully sticky and crispy in equal measures, and cooked absolutely perfectly. I didn't really need a desert as I was completely full, but I shared a sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream with my family and it was worth squeezing in. I've now had most of the things on the menu, and it doesn't matter if it's a burger or a fish pie, or fish and chips, everything is always really well prepared and so tasty. I really love this pub, the owners are always really welcoming and it's obvious that they work hard to keep some really high standards. The beer garden was renovated last summer, and it's always a nice spot to get some afternoon sun too. All in all a great local pub.
Great pub with superb food. The staff are lovely, very friendly & helpful. I would definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area.
Came here early on a Saturday during a bike ride for a drink and ended up staying for lunch. Our server, who I believe was the landlady, was really nice and friendly. She checked in to ask what we thought of the food, which was delicious! We had the chicken goujons, pork belly bites, gazpacho, crab rarebit, and fries, along with a few pints of lager and IPA from Rivertown. The bill came to around £50. We stayed longer than expected, enjoying the sunny weather in the lovely beer garden. We were also allowed to bring our bikes around the back, which was a nice touch. The place has a great independent and local vibe while still feeling welcoming. Highly recommended, and thanks again!
