About This Pub

Ah, The Bald Faced Stag – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local favourite in East Finchley, you know? From the reviews, it sounds like they really nail the food side of things, with seasonal specials and classics that folks rave about, especially those Sunday roasts that come highly recommended for their flavour and heartiness. The service stands out too; the staff seem genuinely warm and on top of it all, making sure everyone feels looked after, which is always a plus when you're out for a bite. That beer garden is another highlight – it's spacious and sorted with heaters, so it's great even when the weather's playing up. On the flip side, it's not perfect; a few mentions of dishes being too salty or not quite cooked right suggest there might be the odd off day, so perhaps it's best to keep expectations in check or ask for tweaks. All in all, it's a solid spot for a casual get-together with mates, offering good value and a nice buzz, but like any place, it's worth going in with an open mind for the full experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Sunday roasts are an absolute treat – think tender beef and hearty portions that leave you satisfied.
  • Service is spot on; the team are friendly, attentive, and handle things like allergies with real care.
  • The atmosphere is just lovely, blending cosy traditional vibes with a modern twist, and the beer garden's a winner for outdoor drinks.
  • Great value options like the Prix Fixe menu and Wing Wednesday make it easy on the wallet for a midweek catch-up.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be a bit heavy-handed with the seasoning, like overly salty potatoes, which might put off those with a lighter palate.
  • Food quality isn't always consistent – one review mentioned undercooked items, so it's worth double-checking if you're picky about that.

We visited the pub last Sunday and had such a lovely afternoon. The roast beef dinner was absolutely delicious and we would recommend. The staff and service was so good. They really looked after us and were very knowledgeable in regards to my daughters allergy. They also have a great beer garden too. We will be back soon

We went here as a large group which is always a test and you know what, we could not have been more impressed! The food was great, fab selection of drinks. The atmosphere was lovely, really good energy and a gorgeous venue but the biggest thing I have to stress is the quality of the staff. The team here are second to none. They looked after us so well. I am blown away with how lovely they were. They were really professional, fun and good at what they did. This place is exceptional, I can’t wait to go back again!

Visited for lunch today and found the food to be quite underwhelming. Both main dishes were very heavily seasoned with salt especially potatoes on the roast - roast lamb contained bits of cartilage and burger was still pink inside which I ended up leaving quite a bit of as I didn’t feel comfortable eating it. Sausage roll was quite tasty. Overall, do not think the food is worth the price - also seemed like quite a slow service which may be suited to some but I believe this could have been better.

I haven't been before and as I really fancied a Sunday Roast, I thought I'd try it and find out. It's a lovely pub with a really nice restaurant area that was spacious and I felt had a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The service from each member of staff that I spoke with, was fantastic, which really made me feel welcome. They were friendly and helpful and happy to have a chat and a laugh. I ordered the Roast Lamb with trimmings and I really enjoyed it. I then had the chocolate sponge with orange on top and white chocolate custard on the side (I think I've remembered it correctly), which was really tasty. The staff were quite happy for me to have it a while later, after my dinner had digested a bit, which was so appreciated. It was a lovely evening out and I'm definitely going to be going back for a Sunday dinner there in the near future. A really enjoyable experience. Thank you to all the Front of House Team and the Chef's. 😊

I have gone for dinner to the Bald Faced Stag for years and always come back. It’s maintained an excellent standard for good food with a changing, adventurous and delicious menu. Staff are always very friendly - we have never had a bad experience. A bonus on our last visit: live guitar and singing
