About This Pub

Ah, The Windmill Tavern – it's one of those pubs that really captures that warm, country feel right in the heart of Gravesend, and I've got to say, it's got plenty to love. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the beer garden stands out as a real highlight; imagine settling in with a cold one on a sunny afternoon, surrounded by greenery – it's just the ticket for a relaxed catch-up with mates. The food's another winner, particularly those Sunday roasts that come highly recommended; they're proper home-cooked affairs, full of flavour and generous portions that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. Plus, being so family and dog-friendly adds a nice touch – it's welcoming for everyone, with a cosy vibe and staff who generally go the extra mile to make you feel at ease. But, let's be straight, it's not all pints and roses; there are a few tales of grumpy service that might leave a sour taste, so you could end up with a mixed experience depending on the day. And with the kitchen not always open, like on quieter weekdays, you might have to plan around that if food's your main draw. All in all, it's a solid spot for a good night out, but I'd suggest checking ahead to make the most of it – after all, the best pubs are the ones where you know what you're getting into!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer garden is an absolute gem, perfect for soaking up the sun with a pint in hand – it's hands down one of the best in Gravesend.
  • They serve up some cracking home-cooked food, especially those Sunday roasts that folks can't stop raving about; it's all hearty, flavoursome, and feels like a proper family meal.
  • It's wonderfully family and dog-friendly, with a cosy atmosphere and friendly staff that make you feel right at home, whether you're popping in with the kids or your four-legged companion.
Cons
  • There have been a couple of reports of less than welcoming service from some staff members, which could put a dampener on your visit if you're not lucky with who you encounter.
  • The kitchen isn't open every day, like on Tuesdays, so if you're after a bite to eat, you might find yourself settling for just drinks instead.
  • Opening hours are a bit on the late side for some, starting from the afternoon most days, which means it's not ideal if you're looking for a spot for lunch or an early tipple.

Popped in or tried to pop in for an after work beer met by an incredibly rude man Ed I’ve just found out, at the door having a go about something that happened years ago! Not to worry trade taken elsewhere and will be recommending to our friends to avoid this place. This guy is a beacon of how not to be in the hospitality industry.

The best family and dog friendly pub in town. Everyone is so friendly. The Sunday roast is delicious and a real home cooked meal, best we have had in a long time. Great garden for the summer!

The Windmill is a lovely cosy and family oriented local pub and I can see why the regulars always return, from the helpful and friendly bar staff to the open fires. The tasty Sunday roasts they show on their social media definitely meets expectations in real life, on Sunday my family and I ate here, all the food came out at once and the food was hot, the beef cut through nicely and the chicken was juicy! The Roasties were one of the best roasties I’ve had for a long time. The cheesecake desert was to die for! Well done The Windmill, your dinners are a home from home roast! And I’ll definitely be back again!

Really fantastic food with amazing crackling and the portions were giant!! We had the mixed meat roast and each meat was cooked to perfection. The pub has a really nice atmosphere and is really child friendly, my daughter never wants meat but she ate everything! Will definitely be back with my husband who massively missed out not making it this time!
