About This Pub

Ah, The Windmill – it's one of those pubs that really grows on you if you catch it on a good day. I reckon it's a solid choice for anyone in Northampton looking for a relaxed spot with a cracking garden; imagine sinking a pint outside with a mini football pitch for the little ones, or joining in on their Thursday quiz nights where the ale flows nicely and the chat is cheerful. They've been around since the 1970s as part of the McManus bunch, so you know they've got that tried-and-true feel with a warm atmosphere and decent drinks selection. On the flip side, though, it's a shame about the occasional off-key service – a few folks have mentioned bar staff being a bit brusque, which can take the edge off an otherwise pleasant visit. And let's not forget, prices might make you wince, like shelling out over five quid for a non-alcoholic beer, so it's worth keeping an eye on your wallet. All in all, it's got that community heart with its events and outdoor space, but I'd say pop in if you're up for a casual get-together, just go in with realistic expectations for a balanced experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The garden is absolutely lovely, with plenty of space and even a mini football pitch, making it a brilliant spot for families or a sunny afternoon pint.
  • They've got a great quiz night on Thursdays, paired with good ale and a welcoming vibe that keeps things fun and engaging.
  • The atmosphere is generally warm and comfortable, with friendly staff on most visits who make you feel right at home.
  • Plenty of parking and seating options, plus it's part of a chain that's been around for over 50 years, offering reliable quality in drinks and a relaxed setting.
Cons
  • Some staff can come across as a bit rude or snooty, which might put you off returning for another round.
  • Drink prices are on the steep side, like £5.40 for a Guinness zero, so it might not be the most budget-friendly option.
  • The pub can feel a tad quiet at times, especially if you're after a lively buzz, as it was empty in a couple of visits.

Seems like a nice pub. Was empty when I visited for a quick stop. But £5.40 for Guinness zero was a bit steep! Plenty of seating, garden big and secluded with a small football pitch attached. Overall not bad but barmaid a bit snooty..

Beautiful pub run by Landlady Amy. Very welcoming local pub, does some good food options on some days (which are truly amazing!) but is mostly a drink led pub. Very welcoming to all guests, got an amazing garden and mini football pitch for kids with plenty of seating for adults outside. Has a pool table amongst other amenities inside. Beer tastes great always, and service is always perfect.

Only went for one drink in the garden, but it seems like a nice pub. The staff were friendly and polite and the garden is big with plenty of sunshine....when it's out!
