About This Pub

Ah, The William Adams – it's one of those reliable Wetherspoon pubs that you can always count on for a bargain meal and a pint without the fuss. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the staff are mostly lovely and eager to help, which really adds to that cosy, community feel, especially if you're popping in for a hearty breakfast with a view of the garden. The prices are spot-on for keeping things affordable, and it's open from early doors till late, making it ideal for a spontaneous catch-up. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; there have been a few grumbles about the odd rude staff member who might leave you feeling a bit miffed, and the bar service can drag on when it's heaving, which might put a dampener on your visit. Plus, some folks have mentioned the tables not being as clean as they'd like, and the food can sometimes fall flat – think bland burgers or odd-tasting sides. Overall, though, it's a decent haunt for us pub lovers; just go in with realistic expectations, and you'll likely have a good time without any major dramas.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are generally super friendly and helpful, making you feel right at home most of the time.
  • You get decent food at really affordable prices – perfect for a casual meal without breaking the bank.
  • The pub has a light and airy vibe, especially with those nice seats overlooking the garden, which makes it a pleasant spot for a brekkie or a pint.
  • It's open bright and early until late, seven days a week, so it's always there when you fancy a drop-in.
Cons
  • Some staff can be a bit off, like that shift leader who was disrespectful and quick to point fingers – not the warm welcome you'd hope for.
  • Service at the bar can be painfully slow when it's busy, leaving you waiting while others jump the queue.
  • The place has had complaints about being a bit grubby, with dirty tables that need a good wipe-down before you settle in.
  • Food isn't always spot-on; it can be bland or not properly heated, and ordering via the app might frustrate you if the signal's dodgy.

Starting off with the staff, they are all super helpful and friendly apart from the shift leader, she was wearing a blue and white striped top and was running the day on 30th may. She was disrespectful, threatening us saying that we got our OWN order wrong and that she had a camera to prove it even tho she was the one that messed the order up. All it took was an apology that she thought we asked for something different yet she failed to do so. My friend couldn’t eat the (wrong) food that she gave us due to allergies yet she put a fight against it saying that we would order something that would potentially cause danger. At first she messed up the order at till by missing one of the meals but we were fine about it until we received something completely different from what we asked for, which again can be harmful to someone with allergies. It was just human error and i can understand it happens due to being busy, however the way she handled it was fully disrespectful and was not needed. She was very judgy and persistent that she was right. Also to mention we were willing to pay extra and just wanted a swap!! she was just very rude, judgy and wanted to be a know-it-all. Attitude needs to be sorted, it baffles me that these sorts of personalities get hired.

Loved this Spoons on Gorleston High St. Popped in for breakfast and found a nice seat to the rear of the pub with a view into the garden. Light and airy feel to the pub which was quite busy with families enjoying a half term brekkie treat. Food was freshly cooked and delicious and coffee was good with the usual free refills Very good value as always and made for an enjoyable filling start to the day.

So sat and tried to order via app. So stood at the bar it was very busy. So while the girl was serving others going from one end of the bar to another. I said excuse me but that person just walked up to the bar and you served them straight away, when clearly there was lots of us waiting to be served. Obviously others around me were miffed. Her words were well I only work that end of the bar and not the end you are standing. What a load of cod wallop.

This used to be a lovely clean establishment with lovely food. I visited today for lunch and was very disappointed. The place has gone down hill considerably. The food was barely heated and bland. I had a burger. It tasted like cardboard. The table we sat at was so dirty I had to wipe it down myself. The dirt that came off the wipe made me feel ill. QD provides better quality and value for money. The table menus are filthy and the coffee machine was in a dreadful state. I am very disappointed by the state of the pub and the lack of care towards patrons. I observed a male member of staff serving drinks to a table and leaving the pile of dirty dinner plates behind him. This is not necessarily his fault but it highlights the problem with a lack of staff. Maybe wages are too low? I will not eat here again unless there is significant improvement, and the place is staffed properly to cope with the work that is clearly required. Sadly, it is clear that this pub did not learn many lessons from Covid. I have been quite generous with my scoring because I am confident lessons will be learned and the required changes made. Cleanliness is basic, especially when eating out. Please pay more attention to hygiene.

Decent food at a decent price. Had the turkey dinner here with some sides. No major complaints but the stuffing tastes a bit odd. The service was decent but bar seems to take ages and sometimes food arrives before drinks. You can order on their app, but signal isn't great here so you could use their WiFi. Decent Christmas options but I don't understand why everywhere has gone for cheese this Christmas. Bit boring. Side note, small plates used to be 3 for £10, now it is 3 for £15!
