About This Pub

You know, when you step into the Short Blue, it's like walking into a slice of history with its cosy, traditional setup from back in 1693 – think stained glass windows and a roaring log fire that just invites you to settle in. The team there are proper friendly, always ready with a smile and happy to accommodate any little requests, which makes the place feel like a second home. The food's a standout, too; I'm talking mouthwatering Sunday roasts and fry-ups that could rival your nan's, all dished up affordably with fresh local touches. And don't get me started on the drinks – a cracking range of ales and beers from nearby breweries means there's always something new to try. It's even got that dog-friendly vibe and a garden with harbour views for sunnier days, perfect for whiling away an afternoon. That said, it's not without its quirks; the hours aren't clearly listed, so you might have to double-check before heading over, and those huge portions can be a bit overwhelming if you're not starving. Overall, though, it's a solid spot for a good laugh and a bite, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area – just go with an appetite and an open mind!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely charming and welcoming, with a cosy historic feel from its old fisherman's cottage roots, complete with reclaimed timbers and a lovely log fire.
  • The food is spot on – think hearty portions of traditional pub grub like amazing Sunday roasts and the best fry-ups around, all at reasonable prices using local ingredients.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of beers, ales, wines, and spirits, especially with regional brews on tap, making it a proper treat for anyone who loves a good pint.
  • It's super dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're out for a walk and fancy a stop-off, and the outdoor garden has nice harbour views for those warmer days.
  • The staff are friendly and attentive, always going the extra mile with special requests, which really makes you feel at home.
Cons
  • The operating status seems a bit unclear, as it might be closed or have limited hours, which could leave you disappointed if you turn up without checking first.
  • Portions are generous to a fault – you might end up overdoing it and skipping dessert, like one person who regretted having a starter alongside their massive main.
  • Without specific opening times listed, it's tricky to plan a visit, especially if you're travelling from further afield.

This is a proper pub with good food. And the staff? Well I can't thank them enough for accommodating my not very frequent visits with special requests. Hubby said the beer was very good. Ziggy said the doggy beer on tap (water) was tasty too xx

This is a must try if you are within 30 miles of the place. Book for a Sunday roast. I can honestly say its the best Sunday dinner I have had the pleasure of having cooked for me EVER. Very very very good. High praise from me as I'm a pretty good Sunday roast cook myself. Excellent from start to finish. Book it and visit, you will not be disappointed I promise. I had the lamb rump special and it was outstanding from the roast veg, meat and excellent roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings. The landlord and all the staff were brilliant too. I can't wait to return.

Dog friendly. Lovely food and huge portions. I regretted having a starter. Not because it wasn't lovely because it was but because it was the size of a main and I struggled with my main, a pudding was out of the question! The range of ales and beers was impressive too. When back this way I will be dropping in. Phoning prior to visiting is recommended. Parking is an issue, there is none at the pub and the surrounding roads are double yellow lines. There is a pay and display carpark two to three minutes walk away on High Street Photo. There is a stake on the plate!!!!

A real throwback to what a pub should be like. Great service, traditional and exceptional food. We had the beef roast and it was brilliant, 5* food and lots of it for a fair price too. There was a serving of gravy and Cauliflower Cheese on the side included too which was lovely also

Such a lovely wee pub. The staff were nice and attentive, it was cozy and spacious, and the food was amazing! I consider myself a fry up fanatic, due to the large amount I have eaten, and I can easily say this was the best I have ever had. Myself friend and I both had a veggie fry up and it had both hallumi AND sausages which most don’t have! The toast was beautiful alongside the eggs and the hashbrowns and everything was exceptional! Lots of vegetarian options and lots of size options aswell which I haven’t seen before in other pubs- which makes this suitable for those with a small appetite or a large one! Rich (the chef) came out to check everything was to our satisfaction which of course- it was! Lovely chef, lovely staff, nice pub- would definitely recommend!
