About This Pub

Ah, The Wheatsheaf – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, it's got this fantastic old-school charm that's perfect for sinking a Guinness on a Sunday afternoon or getting stuck into the jukebox and pool table on a Friday night. The bar staff and the crowd of regulars really make it feel welcoming, like you're chatting with mates rather than just grabbing a drink. Prices are fair, which is always a win, and it captures that genuine Oxford essence that you'd expect from a tucked-away spot. On the flip side, it's a shame there's no food on offer, so you might end up heading out for a proper meal, and with doors not opening until the afternoon, it might not suit everyone for an early session. All in all, if you're after a solid, no-fuss pub with a great vibe, it's well worth a visit – just go in with realistic expectations and you'll have a top time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's got that classic, welcoming Oxford vibe that makes you feel right at home, perfect for a relaxed pint or a lively Friday night.
  • The bar staff are brilliant, always friendly and on point, and the locals and regulars add to the charm, making it a proper community spot.
  • Prices are spot on for a good value pint, with great music from the jukebox and a pool table for some fun entertainment.
  • It's a true traditional pub experience, like stepping into a slice of Oxford history, which is ace if you're after that authentic feel.
Cons
  • It doesn't seem to offer food, so if you're peckish, you might have to pop out for a bite elsewhere.
  • The opening hours start a bit late at 1 PM, which could be a downside if you're an early riser looking for a morning tipple.
  • Without a website, it's not the easiest to get more details online, so you might need to just turn up and see for yourself.

Always loved this place since gigging back in my teenage years. I don't venture there as much as I used to, but it's still the same vibe on a Friday night which is ace. Good music in the Jukebox, pool table, etc. Excellent.

Only stopped for a pint which I have done on many occasions. What a boozer. Was massively impressed and my advice would be to get in there and have a good slurp. Can't be many more like this left

A lovely laneway pub in the original setting with a one room deep configuration, a true oxford experience! Great prices and good music. As an Australian it felt like what I imagine an American dive bar feels like, from the interior. Overall great pub!
