About This Pub

Ah, The Varsity Club – it's one of those places that really sticks in your mind after a visit. I have to say, the rooftop terrace is just brilliant; imagine sipping on a well-crafted cocktail while taking in those sweeping views of Oxford – it's the sort of thing that makes you linger a bit longer than planned. The drinks menu is spot on, with classics and unique twists that keep things exciting, and those deals like 2 for £15 make it feel a bit more wallet-friendly. The vibe is always upbeat, whether you're there for a casual brunch or getting into the groove with weekend DJs, and the team behind the bar are genuinely warm, making sure everything runs smoothly. On the flip side, it's in a prime location so expect to pay a premium for those views and experiences – it's not the cheapest night out, but you get what you pay for. Plus, it can get heaving during busy periods, so planning ahead is a must to avoid disappointment. All in all, if you're after a memorable spot for drinks with mates, it's well worth a go, but keep an eye on your budget and book that table in advance.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The rooftop terrace is an absolute gem, offering stunning 360-degree views of Oxford's Dreaming Spires – it's perfect for a relaxed afternoon or evening soak-up the scenery.
  • Cocktails are top-notch, with creative specials and great deals like 2 for £15 on selected drinks; the Espresso Martini and Negroni are real crowd-pleasers.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home – shout-out to the service that keeps things buzzing without being over the top.
  • It's got a lively atmosphere, especially with DJs on weekends, and options for brunch, bottomless sessions, or even private hire for a special do.
  • The venue's flexible with year-round access, including cosy heaters and pods for winter, so you can enjoy it no matter the weather.
Cons
  • Cocktails can be a tad pricey, especially when you're splashing out in central Oxford, but I suppose you're paying for those incredible views.
  • It does get quite busy, particularly in peak times like summer or during events, so you'll want to book ahead to snag a spot.
  • The food menu is only available on certain days and times, which might limit your options if you're popping in spontaneously.

Rooftop bar Great for a sunny or warm day. Cocktails pricey but you're in central Oxford & paying for the views. Always a nice atmosphere & good service. We always book ahead for a rooftop table. Haven't used the rest of the venue.

Hosted a group of about 30 people here two years in a row and both times it was amazing. We’ve gone in August both times which is an extremely busy time in Oxford. The Varsity Club group was absolutely exceptional with planning and service. All of the staff are extremely friendly, welcoming and overall just want you to have a great time. Cocktails are amazing and food is delicious. If you plan on hosting a group or even visiting Oxford, Varsity Club is a must. They have a rooftop section with beautiful views of the city. Highly recommend!
