About This Pub
Ah, The Wharf – what a delightful little find down by Cotton Lake in Dartford. I have to say, it's one of those places that really pulls you in with its peaceful setting and those breathtaking views across the water; it's just the ticket for kicking back after a day out shopping or wandering around. The team here has nailed the dog-friendly bit in the bar and garden areas, with treats on offer and a welcoming feel that makes it easy to pop in with your furry friend – though do keep in mind it's not allowed in the restaurant proper, which is a small shame. On the food front, they've got some absolute winners with fresh, locally sourced ingredients that give everything a lovely homemade touch, like the beetroot tart or those gluten-free nuggets that folks rave about. But let's be honest, it's not all perfect; a couple of mates mentioned the odd dish falling short of expectations, so it pays to choose wisely. Still, with a great selection of drinks and that spacious outdoor area, it's a solid spot for catching up with friends or even hosting a small do in their function room. All in all, I'd say it's worth a visit for the atmosphere alone, as long as you go in with an open mind and perhaps skip the busier times.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The stunning lakeside views make it a perfect spot for unwinding, especially on a sunny day by the water.
-
It's wonderfully dog-friendly in the bar area and outside, with treats and a welcoming vibe for your four-legged mates.
-
The food is generally delicious, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients from Kent and the Southeast – think hearty dishes like beetroot tart or gluten-free options that hit the spot.
-
They've got an extensive range of beers, ciders, wines, and cocktails on offer, ideal for a proper catch-up over drinks.
-
The outdoor terrace and large garden are brilliant for al fresco dining, plus there's a function room for events that seats up to 32 people.
Cons
-
Dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant area, which might be a bit of a downer if you're hoping to dine inside with your pet.
-
The food quality can be hit or miss; while some dishes are spot on, others haven't quite lived up to expectations for a few visitors.
-
It might get busy, especially near Bluewater, so snagging a good spot could take a bit of patience on peak days.

This is a fantastic dog-friendly pub! Right at the entrance, there's a special treat station for dogs, complete with photos of previous four-legged visitors. We held our team lunch here and the food was absolutely delicious 😃
For me, this place is a gem in terms of location and atmosphere. It's stunning sitting by the lake on a warm day. It's huge which means there's usually a spot to sit and the vibes are good.
I really wanted to love this place and give it five stars but unfortunately the food was not to my standard. I ordered the buttermilk chicken, and it was limited in flavour (bland), and the chips with the chicken were warm. I'd go again for drinks only but I was disappointed with my lunch. My friend had a similar experience.
A Hidden Gem with a View!
This lovely dog friendly pub is a true hidden gem — the view of the lake is absolutely stunning and creates such a relaxing atmosphere. The food is fresh and well-prepared, and the staff are friendly and welcoming, which made our visit really enjoyable.
One thing that could be improved is the food ordering process. While drinks can be ordered easily online, food orders still require queuing, which feels a bit outdated and impractical, especially during busy times. It would be great to see the same online convenience extended to food ordering as well.
That said, the overall experience was fantastic, and I’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend it for the beautiful setting and quality food!
FAVOURITE local pub, amazing views by the lake and sometimes live performances inside! Dog friendly inside - a man randomly bought my dog a steak here once! 😂 Great place to meet people too, have made a few friends here.
Always have a great time and food is 🤌🏼 been probably a few hundred times and only ever had a food complaint once (chicken was slightly pink) but they cleared the bill so was all good! They have fixed the outside heaters aswell 😌
A lovely, quiet place! I went for dinner with my colleagues, and we had a fantastic experience. The food was delicious—I tried the beetroot tart and absolutely loved it. We also enjoyed the nachos and calamari, and I have to mention that the gluten-free chicken nuggets were excellent. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!
