About This Pub

Oh, what a gem The Waterside is, tucked away by the river in Imperial Wharf—it's one of those places that just draws you in with its picturesque setting and that unmistakable pub warmth. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the staff really shine; they're always on hand with a smile and quick to sort you out, whether you're there for a casual pint or something more special like an event. The food's generally a winner too, with plenty of tasty choices that cater to all tastes, from family roasts to well-balanced menus that make for a proper satisfying meal. It's got this charming mix of traditional vibes and a fresh feel that makes it easy to while away the hours. But, to be fair, it's not all perfect—I've heard a few tales of dishes that didn't quite hit the mark, like starters that were a bit lacklustre, which could put a dampener on things if you're after something exceptional every time. Still, with its strong points shining through, it's a solid choice for a get-together, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area, just go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The riverside location is absolutely stunning—it's such a treat to sit by the water and soak in the views, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed afternoon or evening out.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive; they've got that warm, welcoming vibe that really makes you feel at home, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or hosting an event.
  • The food selection is spot on, with a great mix of options for everyone—from hearty Sunday roasts and family-friendly menus to delicious starters and mains that use quality ingredients.
  • The atmosphere strikes a lovely balance between classic pub charm and modern touches, creating a lively yet cosy space that's ideal for catching up with mates or enjoying a meal with the family.
Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss; while some dishes are spot on, others might fall short, like underwhelming starters that don't quite live up to expectations.
  • It might not always meet the hype for everyone, as the occasional disappointment could leave you wishing for a bit more consistency in the offerings.

What a fantastic venue! The Waterside by the River was the perfect place to hold our event. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, always on hand to assist and make sure everything ran smoothly. The food platters were a real hit with our guests, and the spaces available suited our needs perfectly. Thank you to the entire team for making our day so special – it was a joyful and memorable experience for everyone involved. Highly recommend!

I’d been looking forward to checking in at The Waterside after viewing it from the train crossing the river. I’m sorry to say the experience was a huge disappointment, mainly due to the poor quality of the food we were served. The calamari starter was average although the pieces of calamari were tiny compared to what you would come to expect in other establishments. Ho hum. On to the mains and I had ordered the steak. The menu states 8oz but what arrived was very small. It felt like there was something missing from the plate. The steak was nicely cooked to medium rare and the béarnaise sauce was tasty although it had a skin over the top and had been sitting around by the look if it. I asked for fries instead of the chunky chips as listed on the menu. Apart from a few 'normal' sized fries on the top of the bowl, the rest were tiny little 1cm pieces, like the broken leftover bits from the bottom of a bag of frozen fries. Not good. The so-called 'tenderstem broccoli' was definitely on the hard and crunchy side rather than tender. My wife ordered the Waldorf salad. Hmmnn. The main ingredients for a Waldorf salad are: apples, celery, walnuts, grapes and leaves in a mayonnaise dressing. I think most people would expect to find these in a Waldorf Salad if they ordered it. If you're not going to get the basics right, please don't call it a Waldorf because this wasn't. This salad was a 'mains' and not a side dish so what arrived at the table was a big let-down. There was no sign of any celery and no mayonnaise dressing for a start. There were walnuts and grapes but this just looked like someone had opened a packet of walnut halves and chucked them in with a handful of grapes. On the menu it said 'toasted' walnuts, which they weren't. It would have been nice if the chef had at least halved the grapes and chopped the walnuts but hey-ho, why bother? The menu also stated 'chicory leaves' but no sign of any of those either. Aside from the food, the whole time we were there we had to listen to a couple of children who insisted on screaming every two minutes, whilst another toddler in a high chair kept throwing cutlery and his plate on the floor. Ok, not the establishment's fault but it added to the feeling that we wished we had gone somewhere else. On the plus side the staff were friendly and helpful which was appreciated. However, the manager didn't seem that interested when I complained before we left. Having spent £120 on two mains, a starter and a few drinks we left very disappointed and doubt if we'll be returning any time soon.

I’ve always wanted to dine here but never stopped by before till yesterday with the family to celebrate and eat. A great atmosphere for the family and great meal selection available for starters, main and dessert with a kids friendly menu option too and great waiting staff. I opted for the tagliatelle crab for main and sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream for dessert. Clean toilet facilities available for male and female and we used the child seat available. Soft and comfy seating options available whether on the sofa or if you prefer a regular dining seat.

This is a super cute pub by the river. The decoration and atmosphere are lively and a good mix between classic and modern. Cure in the details. I was there for a sunday roast with my friends, it was the only dish I tried but it was very good and portions were generous. I recommend it and ill be back to watch the Euro for sure! 👌🏼

This was one of the best gastronomic experiences during my visit to the UK. I had brunch, lunch, and dinner at this place, and everything was magnificent. The menu is well-balanced, the service is excellent, and the ambiance is phenomenal. They choose quality ingredients and assemble them to perfection. I had a French brie with toast appetizer (I recommend checking the photo for the exact name). I also enjoyed the grilled chicken over potatoes, and the next day I had their grilled trio (pork, prime rib, and chicken). The flavors and textures are unforgettable. This is a must-visit next time I’m in town. Please give my regards to Nerea, her husband, and their little girl.
