About This Pub

Ah, The Waterloo – it's one of those classic local spots in Blyth that just draws you in with its warm, down-to-earth feel. From what I've gathered from chats with regulars, the staff are absolute stars, always up for a laugh and making sure everyone feels included, which really adds to the charm. You've got these unbeatable drink deals that make it easy to settle in for the evening, and it's brilliant for catching the big games on their HD screens – think Newcastle matches or rugby showdowns that get the whole place buzzing. The grub's not bad either, with Sunday lunches coming in as great value and tasty to boot. On the other hand, it's not all smooth sailing; a few folks have mentioned that service can drag on, especially when it's busy, and it sounds like they might be a bit short-handed behind the bar, which could leave you twiddling your thumbs waiting for that next round. Still, if you're after a relaxed night out with mates, it's worth popping in – just keep your expectations in check for the pace of things, and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • Drinks are inexpensive and there's a fantastic range of offers, perfect for enjoying a cheeky pint without spending a fortune.
  • The atmosphere is lively and inclusive, with a good mix of people that creates a real community vibe.
  • It's a top spot for sports fans, with HD screens showing live football, rugby, and more, especially great for Newcastle United matches.
  • The pub is clean and well-maintained, and they've got decent quality pints and meals that offer excellent value for money.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit slow at times, with waits of up to 30 minutes mentioned, which might put a dampener on your evening.
  • It seems like they could do with more bar staff, as one review highlighted that only one person was really on top of things.
  • There have been a few inconsistent experiences, like comparing it unfavourably to the pub next door, so it might not always hit the mark.

Clientele mixed between older and young, female and male, which made for a good atmosphere. Barstaff pleasant and the whole place was clean. Certainly the drinks are inexpensive and of decent quality.

Haven't been here for years. Still a very friendly and popular pub. Came to try the Sunday lunches. Couldn't fault it. Found it to be excellent value for money. 3meats to choose from, 2 types of stuffing and all the usual veg. An enjoyable Sunday afternoon.
