About This Pub

Ah, Blyth and Tyne - Bar 38, it's one of those places that really captures the spirit of a traditional bar with a modern twist, isn't it? I reckon it's spot on for a casual night out – the staff are top-notch, always up for a chat and making sure you're well looked after, which makes the whole experience feel warm and engaging. Plus, with its recent refurb, it's got this inviting setup with a pool table and a back room buzzing with entertainment like discos and plans for live bands, all at prices that won't leave your wallet weeping. It's ideal if you're after an affordable spot to unwind with a pint or get into the weekend vibes. On the flip side, though, I've heard it can get a bit tricky with some of the crowd; there are tales of it feeling less than welcoming due to a few unsavoury types, and sadly, management doesn't always jump in to smooth things over, which can lead to the odd scuffle or just a general unease. Still, if you're up for a bit of a gamble on the atmosphere, it's worth a visit for the good bits – just keep your wits about you and you'll likely have a memorable time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The bar staff are absolutely brilliant – they'll keep you topped up and ensure you have a cracking time, making sure you don't leave sober!
  • It's had a fantastic refurbishment, turning it into a modern spot with a fair-sized bar area, a pool table, and a back room for discos and upcoming live bands on Saturdays.
  • Drinks are really affordable, perfect for a quiet pint during the week or letting loose on the weekends without breaking the bank.
  • There's a welcoming vibe for entertainment, whether you're up for a game of pool or enjoying the various options in the back room.
Cons
  • Some of the regulars can make the place feel a bit unwelcoming or even hostile at times, which puts a damper on the atmosphere.
  • There have been instances of fights or rough behaviour, and it seems like management hasn't always stepped in to sort things out.
  • It might not feel as inviting as it used to be for newcomers, with a few folks making it less enjoyable for everyone.

This used to be a gem of a bar. I've drank hundreds of pints in here over the last 30 years but it's not very welcoming these days. There is a very iffy group of regulars who make the place a hostile environment and management does nothing about it despite being fully aware of them.

Another bar that has had a make over recently. A fair sized bar area with a pool table and another room at the back were they have the disco's etc. They intend having live bands on Saturday nights in the very near future. Just the one barmaid on when we were in (Dan or Sam). If Heineken made barmaids she's the result.
