About This Pub

Ah, The Railway Tavern in Blyth – it's one of those classic spots that feels like a proper local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered, the beer is spot on and won't set you back much, which is always a win when you're out for a pint with mates. The staff come across as genuinely warm and attentive, and there's a bit of entertainment on offer with the billiard table and darts, making it a fun place to while away an evening. That said, it's not all smooth sailing; a few folks have mentioned a nasty sewage-like smell that could turn your stomach faster than you can say 'cheers', and things can get a tad chaotic with loud events or disruptive crowds that make it hard to hear yourself think. Overall, with a solid rating showing it's done well by many, I'd say it's worth a visit if you're after good value and a lively vibe, but maybe pop in on a quieter night to avoid any potential downsides – just keep an eye out for those little niggles that keep it from being perfect.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer here is absolutely top notch, with some cracking selections that really hit the spot.
  • You've got friendly staff who make you feel right at home, always up for a chat and quick with service.
  • It's a budget-friendly spot with pints that are among the cheapest around, perfect for a casual night out.
  • They've got a nice setup with things like a billiard table and darts, adding a bit of fun to the atmosphere.
Cons
  • Occasionally, there's a dreadful smell, like raw sewage, that can put you off before you've even stepped inside.
  • It can get pretty loud, especially with events like karaoke, making it hard to have a relaxed chat.
  • Crowd control seems a bit hit or miss, with some rowdy groups disrupting the vibe now and then.
  • The door situation might be an issue, as it keeps getting opened and closed, letting in draughts or noise.

Went for a night with a medium, main door was closed which I was impressed with (until it kept getting opened and closed) unfortunately even though most of the space was taken up by the event, people were still allowed in, some were loud and asked many times to keep it down. It would've been a fantastic way to make money especially when a bottle of wine was £19 and wasn't great. Yes you don't want to isolate regular customers but when you are putting something on you need to tell them to buy a ticket and take part or leave. Really disappointed

First pub coming from the shipyard so I had low expectations. First impression was that it would be a dive bar but actually it was quite nice. The have a pretty good selection and a billiard table and I think darts. The night I was there there was karaoke so it was kind of loud. Nice staff and nice beer garden
