About This Pub

You know, I had a great time at The Volunteer Canteen the other day, and it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of what makes a local spot special. The staff are just lovely – so friendly and attentive, it's like chatting with old mates behind the bar. They've got a brilliant range of beers, and folks rave about the Guinness and real ales, which is perfect if you're into that classic pub experience. The atmosphere is spot on too, with a cosy log fire in the winter that gives it a real homely vibe, and it's dead welcoming for dogs, so you can bring your furry friend along without a fuss. On the flip side, I'm not entirely sure about the food situation; one person mentioned they weren't even certain if it's on offer, which could be a letdown if you're hoping for a proper meal. Plus, it's very no-nonsense – no fancy decor or extras here, so if you're after something a bit more polished, it might not be your cup of tea. And with no website to look up, it's worth double-checking the hours before you go. All in all, it's a hidden gem for anyone who appreciates a good, straightforward pint in a welcoming setting, and I'd definitely recommend it for a relaxed catch-up with friends.

Proper real ale pub. Very no frills, so if that's not your vibe it won't be for you. But if you like a traditional boozer, very much in the kind of mould that a CAMRA enthusiast would enjoy... Happy days! Very much in the top tier of pubs not just in Waterloo but in North Liverpool more widely. Would recommend for anyone interested in traditional pubs.
