About This Pub

Ah, The Victoria Inn – it's one of those spots that really captures the heart of a traditional British pub, isn't it? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the place does a smashing job with its ever-changing real ales and ciders, which folks rave about as a drinker's paradise, especially if you're into that CAMRA-approved quality. The live music and weekly quizzes add a lovely community touch, making it feel like a proper local hangout where you can unwind with friends over a pint. That friendly service from the staff stands out too; it's those little interactions that make a visit memorable. On the flip side, though, there's that nagging concern from one review about card cloning, which is a real shame and something to be cautious about – maybe stick to cash or keep a close eye on your transactions. It's a smaller venue, so it can get cosy, perhaps a bit too much on packed nights, and while the traditional decor is charming, it might not wow everyone if you're after something more contemporary. All in all, I'd say it's worth a visit for the beers and vibe, but go in with your wits about you for a balanced experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely brilliant – they've got six real ales that rotate weekly, plus 12 traditional ciders and a good mix of keg beers and spirits, making it a real treat for ale enthusiasts.
  • The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with live music every Friday and Saturday featuring local talent, and fun events like quizzes and bingo on Mondays that keep things lively and community-oriented.
  • Staff are genuinely friendly and helpful, as many folks have mentioned, adding to that cosy pub feel, especially if you're popping in for a quick drink near the railway station.
  • It's conveniently located just across from Derby's train station, perfect for a pit stop after arriving or before heading out, and it's surrounded by other great real ale spots nearby.
Cons
  • There was that unfortunate incident in one review where someone had their card cloned after paying, which is a bit worrying and might make you think twice about how you handle payments there.
  • As a smaller pub, it might feel a tad cramped during busier events or evenings, so if you're after more space to spread out, it could be a downside.
  • The refurbishment is recent, but from what I've seen, not everyone might appreciate the traditional vibe if they're looking for something more modern or flashy.

Attended a small gig in the back room, which was much bigger than I had expected. Had a few drinks from the bar before and during the show, staff were lovely and the drinks were reasonably priced.

Lovely pub small and friendly, unfortunately had my card cloned here and as I have protective wallet the only time I removed it was to pay for drinks. So looks like staff ripped me off. Pity cause I liked pub but never going back now

I’ve not been to this pub for about 20 years, was pleasantly surprised to find they had 10 flat ciders on. This is a real ale pub located opposite Derby railway station. They have live bands on at the weekends. Very friendly bar staff, great selection of ciders. I would recommend.
