About This Pub

Ah, The Alexandra Hotel – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its charm, isn't it? From what I've gathered, it's got this brilliant lineup of real ales on tap, like Harvest Pale or that Jumbo IPA, which are always rotating to keep things interesting – I can just imagine settling in for a pint and chatting about which one's your favourite. The service sounds spot on too; even on packed match days, the staff keep things running smoothly, making it feel like a proper friendly spot for a laugh with mates. And those little touches, like the railway memorabilia, add a nice bit of character that could make your visit memorable. On the flip side, it does have that traditional pub feel, which might lean a tad 'blokey' for some, and if you're hoping for more than just bar snacks, you might leave a bit peckish. Still, for what it is – a solid, no-nonsense ale house near the river and train station – it's worth popping in for a relaxed evening. All in all, it's a gem in Derby, but like any good chat, it's about knowing what you're in for!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic selection of real ales from various breweries, always changing to keep things fresh and exciting
  • Friendly and efficient service that handles busy crowds well, making you feel right at home
  • Lovely atmosphere that's perfect for a good chat with friends, especially with its cosy, traditional vibe
  • Unique railway memorabilia dotted around, which adds a fun and quirky element to the experience
  • Reasonably priced drinks and tasty bar snacks like pork pies, ideal for a quick bite without the fuss
Cons
  • It can come across as a bit traditional or 'blokey', which might not appeal to everyone looking for a more mixed crowd
  • Limited food options, mainly just bar snacks rather than full meals, so it's not the place if you're after a proper sit-down dinner
  • No clear operating hours listed, which could make it a bit of a gamble when planning a visit

Service was good and friendly considering the place was absolutely rammed with it being a match day. Beer was top notch. A nice walk along the river to get to the football stadium and only a short walk to the train station, a perfect spot for some football beers

Great choice of beers but a little bit blokey. It's nice to go into a pub and jot smell cooking. Great choice of lovely bar snacks including pork pies. Definitely recommend.

What a belting little boozer this is. It was rammed packed but with loads of staff on duty. We got there just after football had finished. There were loads of train memorabilia which my pals loved and the choice of ales was great. We stayed in for 2 pints. I was drinking 'Highway to Hell" lovely ale. Dead friendly local people we chatted to and the atmosphere was great. Well done to this place.

One of my favourite pubs in Derby. Great selection of beers, reasonably priced. An amazing collection of railway memorabilia including A TRAIN! It’s definitely a real ale pub, but I would strongly recommend popping in whatever your tipple.
