About This Pub
Ah, the Brunswick Inn – what a lovely spot it is, tucked away in Derby near the station. From what I've gathered from folks' chats online, it's got this fantastic range of real ales, some even brewed on site, and they're served up at prices that won't break the bank, which is always a plus when you're out for a pint or two. I can imagine settling in for a chat with mates over a well-kept beer, soaking up that traditional atmosphere with its historical roots going back to 1842 – it's got real character, you know? The food gets high marks too, especially those cheesy chip butties that sound like proper comfort grub, though do keep in mind it's only available certain times, so plan ahead if that's your thing. On the flip side, if you're not into the classic pub scene or fancy something a bit more contemporary, it might not hit the spot, and with the owners not actively managing their online presence, you might wonder if they'd be as responsive to any niggles. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening; I'd say give it a go if you're in the area – you might just find your new favourite local.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The selection of real ales is absolutely spot on, with some brewed right on site – it's a real treat for anyone who loves a good pint.
-
Prices are really reasonable, especially if you're a CAMRA member, making it an affordable spot for a night out.
-
It has that classic, traditional pub atmosphere with plenty of history, which gives it a warm, welcoming feel.
-
The food's a winner too, like those amazing cheesy chip butties – simple but spot-on when you're peckish.
-
Friendly staff and a handy location near the train station make it easy to pop in after a day out.
Cons
-
Food service is limited to certain days and times, so you might miss out if you're planning a meal on a Monday.
-
It has a very old-school vibe, which might not suit everyone if you're after something more modern or lively.
-
As it's not claimed by the owners online, it could mean they're not as quick to sort out any issues that crop up.

Love the Brunswick. It was our stop at the end of an Easter pub crawl around Derby.
If we'd started here I wouldn't have wanted to leave.
Opened in 1842 and marked for demolition along with the railway cottages in the mid 70's this pub has been left derelict and abandoned more than once.
It was lovingly renovated, restored and reopened in 1987.
It is a thing of beauty and not to be missed if ever this way you do pass.
Been going to this local pub for over 20 years, Good range of flat ciders upto 16. Had 8 when I visited. Also their cheesy chip butties are amazing. Its a very well known real ale pub and a must visit if your in the area.
Great traditional watering hole . Great selection of beers a real old fashioned pub should be on the go to list of any serious ale connoisseur. Good atmosphere . Sadly didn't try the food but plenty coming into the pub to eat .
Lovely real ale pub near the train station, nice staff
What a fantastic real ale pub with a great selection of beers, with a variety brewed on site, and all at a very reasonable price particularly if you’ve got a CAMRA membership. Tried several beers all of which were very tasty and exceptionally well kept. The pub has a traditional feel with several different rooms, and railway associated memorabilia. Staff were very welcoming and helpful with recommendations. Food is available although I only managed the delicious Cheese and Onion Cob. Well worth a visit and handy for both the railway and bus stations.
