About This Pub

Ah, The Viaduct—it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Hanwell, with its rich history dating back to 1737 and that inviting atmosphere that makes you want to settle in for the evening. I have to say, what really stands out is the food; it's all about those classic dishes done well, with big portions that leave you satisfied, and they've got a passion for using fresh local ingredients, which is spot on for a relaxed meal or even a family get-together. The drinks selection is another winner—whether you're after a pint of real ale or one of those fancy cocktails in the Stable Bar, there's something to suit every taste, and the beer garden is brilliant for soaking up the sun. Plus, the staff are just top-notch, always cheerful and ready to help, especially if you're booking the function room for a special do like a birthday bash or even a comedy night. On the flip side, though, it's not without its flaws; I've heard a few tales of the heating playing up, leaving things a bit frosty when you'd rather be cosy, and while the food's generally good, it doesn't always hit the mark on freshness, which is a shame. Overall, it's a solid spot for a pint and a chat, and I'd recommend giving it a go if you're in the area, just keep an eye on the weather and maybe check ahead for events to make the most of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic charm of the place is just lovely—built in 1737 and named after that famous bridge, it really gives off that warm, welcoming vibe that's perfect for a cosy catch-up.
  • The food is a real highlight; think comforting classics with generous portions and fresh local ingredients, making it ideal for a family Sunday lunch or a hearty meal any day.
  • Staff are absolutely brilliant—friendly and attentive, always going the extra mile, especially for events like parties or comedy nights.
  • A great selection of drinks, from proper real ales to classy cocktails in the Stable Bar, and don't forget that beer garden for those sunny afternoons.
  • It's family-friendly with handy features like step-free access, baby changing facilities, and even big screen sports, so it's versatile for all sorts of gatherings.
Cons
  • Occasionally, the heating can be a bit unreliable, leaving things a tad chilly inside, which might put a damper on your visit during cooler months.
  • Some folks have mentioned that the food doesn't always feel as fresh as it could, even if the portions are generous—it's decent, but not always top-notch quality.
  • While it's generally welcoming, a few have noted the atmosphere can feel a bit off if things like temperature aren't sorted, though it hasn't spoiled the overall experience for most.

Serves Fullers beers, but the menu is not like most other of their pubs. Wide variety and was very nice... large portions, too. I'm not local to there, but if I was i think that I would be in many times for the food.

Food was excellent and service fine but the atmosphere was decidedly frosty as there was no heating in the building. We sat with our coats on to eat, as did other clients. I mentioned it to one of the bar staff and he just agreed with me, and did not give any explanation. Did not spoil our evening but certainly did not enhance it. Cold outside and cold inside. I was glad to get home to a warm house. Shame.

I recently stopped by The Viaduct in Hanwell for a pint, and it was a great experience. The pub has a warm, inviting atmosphere with friendly staff who make you feel right at home. I tried one of their local ales, and it was perfectly chilled and full of flavor – just what I needed to unwind. The ambiance is cozy, with a nice mix of traditional decor and modern touches. Whether you’re sitting inside or enjoying the beer garden, it’s a comfortable spot to relax. Overall, having a pint at The Viaduct was a delightful experience, and I look forward to my next visit!

The food was decent portions for the price, but didn't feel good quality/fresh. Tea and coffee were nice. The atmosphere was also good, happy they have customer parking as well.

Had my work Christmas party in the Function room upstairs. A big thanks to the staff who were exceptional- Cathryn, Harvey and Vishal who went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing night. Also the chef who’s food was incredible and portion sizes were brilliant. Can’t recommend this place enough, a massive thank you to the manager Sundar, for ensuring a smooth running service and for his care and consideration. (Faultless!)
