About This Pub

Ah, The Vernon Arms – it's one of those hidden gems in Liverpool that just hits the spot for a proper pub experience. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the cask ales are a real highlight; they're always in top form with a solid selection that keeps you coming back for more. The staff are an absolute treat too, chatting away and even giving out tasters to make sure you get exactly what you fancy – it's that personal touch that makes a visit feel special. Then there's the decor; it's got this lovely old-fashioned feel with ornate ceilings and lamps that transport you back in time, making it a joy just to sit and soak it in. We tried the lunch special, and for £12 for two mains, it was a steal – simple, tasty grub that hits the spot without breaking the bank. On the downside, it's a bit on the snug side, so if you're popping in on a lively night, you might end up jostling for space, and that one review did hint at something not being entirely up to scratch, maybe with the food or service, though overall it doesn't seem to dampen the fun. All things considered, if you're after a genuine, no-fuss pub with great beers and a welcoming atmosphere, it's well worth seeking out for a pint or two.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The cask ales are absolutely spot on – always well-kept and with a great variety to choose from
  • The staff are dead friendly and helpful, even offering tasters to help you pick your perfect pint
  • It's got that classic old-school charm with stunning decor like ornate ceilings and lamps that make it feel proper welcoming
  • Value for money is brilliant, especially with deals like the lunch special for two mains at just £12
  • There's plenty of space outside for a cheeky drink on the street when the weather's nice
Cons
  • It's a small, cosy spot, so it can get a bit crowded and hard to find a seat on busier evenings
  • One regular mentioned it wasn't quite perfect, possibly with the food or something minor, though it's hard to pin down from what I've seen

Surely one is the best pubs in Liverpool. Never disappoints. 5 cask real ales. Well kept. The slope in the pub floor matches the road. The ornate ceiling and lamp shades. Definitely worth a visit just for the decor. But the beers are excellent too. 5 stars!

Very good Liverpool pub on Dale Street. Six cask beers on handpump when I last visited including a dark mild. Plenty of drinking space on the street outside.

Old school, no frills, street corner boozer with a fine selection of cask ales that are listed on the Real Ale Finder - well worth a visit.

This was my first time in Vernon arms and I was pleasantly surprised! Very nice, small, old fashioned pub. We ordered the "lunch rush" special which was 2 main meals for £12. Which was AMAZING! We also ordered 2 Kopperberg ciders and our total came to £24. The only reason I am giving 4 starts in stead of 5 is because I feel like £6 for a cider is a bit expensive....don't know if there was some mistake.... But the food was so affordable, and great value for money, that I couldn't be too mad!! Service was great!

The Vernon Arms is just the type of pub that I look for, a good old fashioned boozer with some magnificent real ales on, all on top form i might add. As i expected the bar staff were really friendly and asked what sort of beer i wanted, giving me a few tasters on the way, and i went for a Cheshire Cat which was perfectly poured and went down a treat, so i had to get another as it would have been rude not to. 10 /10, a must for real ale drinkers. Ps I couldnt rate the food as i don't know if they did it.
