About This Pub

Ah, The Untraditional Pub – what a lovely find in the heart of Walthamstow's CRATE development. I have to say, it's one of those places that just makes you want to linger a bit longer, especially with their stellar selection of beers that cater to all tastes, from Pillars' own brews to unique crafts from around the UK. The outdoor terrace is a real highlight; picture yourself there on a sunny afternoon, soaking up live music and chatting away with friends – it's got that perfect balance of relaxed and lively. They've thought about everyone too, with child-friendly vibes during the day and plenty of food options from nearby vendors, including vegan picks. On the flip side, it's a shame it's shut on Mondays, which might throw a spanner in your plans for a quick drink mid-week. And honestly, while the atmosphere is great, it does seem like the place could do with a bit more TLC to avoid looking worn out. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and a catch-up, as long as you pick your day wisely and keep an eye on the weather – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely spot on, with a fantastic range of Pillars lagers and other craft brews that really hit the mark for any beer enthusiast.
  • The outdoor terrace is a real treat, especially on warmer days, offering a heated space with live music and events that create a lively, welcoming atmosphere.
  • It's got that chilled yet buzzing vibe, making it ideal for a relaxed catch-up with mates or even a family outing during the day.
  • Plenty of food options nearby from local vendors, and they've got vegan choices, so it's great for those with different dietary preferences.
  • The location in the CRATE development is convenient, surrounded by other local businesses, and it's child-friendly when the sun's out.
Cons
  • It's closed on Mondays, which can be a bit of a letdown if you're hoping for a mid-week pint.
  • The weather plays a big role – it's fabulous when it's warm, but windy or chilly days might make the terrace less appealing.
  • From what I've heard, the place can look a tad shabby at times, like it needs a bit more upkeep to keep things fresh.
  • It does get busy, so you might need to plan ahead to snag a good spot, especially for events or weekends.

its lovely when weather gets warmer , such a lovely space hopefully the local authority will maintain as they have allowed it to get a bit shabby . the council leaders tend to do this once they had their photo opportunities they ignore

A 'box park' like venue with a bar and a few street food vendors. Lots of activities through the week - chilled yet buzzing atmosphere in the sunshine at weekends. Seems to be child friendly in the day.

I haven't been inside the actual pub yet as I have only sat outside on the terrace for the monthly pub quiz. However, the terrace is a nice place for a drink when it's warm and not windy. The pub has a good selection of beers including a very nice porter. You can order entirely from your table using your phone.

Had an amazing guest hibiscus IPA from one of our favourite East London breweries, Deviant & Dandy. Spoiled for choice of DOZENS of unique and tasty craft beers, a lot of Pillars who are the principal brewery here. What a gem to have in Walthamstow. Heated patio as well with lots of vegan food options. All vegan beers labels clearly as well. 10/10

Great place to visit, good beers and great seating area with other shops nearby to get food from. Plan your visit specially if your going at busy times and the opening times are updated so make sure you don’t turn up when they are closed.
