About This Pub
Ah, St James Bar – it's one of those neighbourhood spots that just feels like a proper local in Walthamstow, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this warm, inviting energy where the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and the drinks are spot on for a casual catch-up without spending a fortune. I love how they've got the sports coverage sorted with screens and all, plus things like the pool table and karaoke make it a fun place for a night out with mates. It's got that authentic pub charm that's becoming harder to find, and it's great to see they've thought about accessibility too. On the flip side, though, if you're hoping for a full meal, you're out of luck – it's mostly just snacks, and the beer selection is straightforward, no fancy ales or anything to mix it up. Still, for what it is, it's a reliable spot for a relaxed evening, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area and fancy keeping it simple and enjoyable.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
Drinks are really affordable, with great options for spirits and lagers that won't break the bank.
-
It's got a fantastic atmosphere for watching sports, with screens and a lively vibe, plus fun extras like a pool table and karaoke nights.
-
As a local spot in Walthamstow, it keeps that authentic pub feel, which is a rare gem these days.
-
They've got wheelchair access, so it's inclusive for everyone looking to pop in for a pint.
Cons
-
Food options are pretty limited – just snacks, so if you're after a proper meal, you might need to head elsewhere.
-
The drink selection sticks to standard lagers with no real ale or fancy options, which could disappoint if you're after something more varied.
-
The surroundings are quite unpretentious and basic, meaning it might not have that polished feel for those seeking a bit more ambiance.
-
With only 47 reviews and an average rating of 3.8, it's solid but not standout, and there haven't been any recent ones to gauge the current buzz.

Brilliant place to be staff are good and spirits and lager are the best, they don’t sell food snacks only
If you want a reasonably priced lager on unpretentious surroundings along with a couple of screens this is the place for you. No nitro no real ale. But several standard lagers.
I love going to this bar, it's one of my locals and honestly in my opinion its probably the best bar in Walthamstow, every time I go in the staff are always really warm, welcoming and super friendly, the drinks are really cheap, and its one of the last authentic pubs around the area. Love the atmosphere in here always
