About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about 56 St James – it's one of those hidden gems in London that just feels right for a good catch-up with mates or celebrating something special. The cocktails are a real treat, all hand-shaken and packed with flavour, and the team behind the bar are so warm and attentive, they'll make you feel right at home, especially if you're organising an event like a birthday or engagement. It's got this cosy, inviting atmosphere that makes it perfect for unwinding, and I love how they've incorporated those handmade bits from their shop, giving the place a unique, community feel. On the flip side, though, the menu's a tad limited with just a handful of cocktails, so if you're after a wide selection, you might find it a bit lacking. Prices can add up quickly with the service charge, making it more of a treat than an everyday stop, and it's a pity the cafe's closed at the moment, as I'd have loved to try their breakfasts. All in all, it's worth popping by if you're in the area and fancy something a bit special, but keep those points in mind for a balanced experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The cocktails are absolutely spot on – consistently delicious and handcrafted with real care, making them a highlight for any visit.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and go the extra mile, especially when sorting out events or parties, which really adds to the welcoming vibe.
-
It's a fantastic spot for special occasions, with a cosy atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed evening or even hiring out for your own bash.
-
The unique handmade and homemade shop elements bring a lovely personal touch, celebrating local crafts and making the place feel truly neighbourhood-like.
Cons
-
The cocktail menu is quite small, with only about six options, which might leave you wanting more variety if you're in the mood to explore.
-
It can get a bit pricey, especially with that service charge tacked on – over £25 for a couple of drinks might sting for a casual night out.
-
The cafe is currently closed, so you can't nip in for a homemade breakfast or brunch, which is a shame as it sounds like it was a real gem.

I hired 56 St James for my 30th birthday party. It was the most amazing evening and all the guests commented on how cool venue the venue was and how delicious the drinks were. Would highly recommend for special occasions!!
Very cool place with great cocktails, but small menu with only 6 cocktails, but I'm sure if you asked for something off the menu, they would make it. A bit expensive as they had a service charge, over £25 for two cocktails
Loved the handcrafted cocktails in their cosy outdoor seating area. I've added it to my barguide.london site too!
Fantastic place. Hired this for our engagement party and it was the perfect venue. The team were amazing at helping us organise. The cocktails were incredible. Could not recommend this place enough - a must visit.
I love it here. The cocktails are always consistently spot on! Really delicious. The owner and team are incredibly friendly and the service is perfection. It’s a great spot for a few drinks or a special occassion. The ambience of the bar is always so good! It’s somewhere I’d always take visiting friends or family, as it never disappoints! Highly highly recommend!
