About This Pub
Ah, The Turks Head in Royton – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its homely feel, like popping round to a mate's for a chat and a bite. I have to say, what they do well is the food; those traditional pies are an absolute treat, and from what I've heard, they're the real deal – none of that fancy-schmancy stuff, just hearty, delicious meals that leave you satisfied. The staff often shine too, always up for making your day a little brighter with thoughtful gestures, whether it's a birthday surprise or just a warm welcome. On the downside, it's not all roses; there've been a few tales of meals that didn't quite hit the mark, and sometimes the service feels a bit flat, like they're just going through the motions. Still, overall, it's a solid spot for a relaxed evening out, and I'd reckon it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just keep in mind those little quirks might pop up, but the good bits usually outweigh them.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it feel like a proper cosy spot for a catch-up with mates.
-
Their food is spot on, especially the traditional pies like cheese and onion or wimberry – they're absolutely delicious and hard to beat anywhere.
-
The staff are genuinely lovely and go the extra mile, such as sorting out special touches for birthdays, which really makes your visit memorable.
-
It's great value for money with moderate prices, so you can enjoy a good meal or a pint without it costing a fortune.
Cons
-
Every now and then, the food might not live up to expectations, like in a couple of cases where it was a bit disappointing, though they do handle complaints fairly.
-
Some staff interactions can come across as a tad bland or unenthusiastic, which might leave you wanting a bit more cheer.
-
There are a few quirky rules, such as not being able to get BBQ sauce on certain dishes except for burgers, which feels a bit odd and restrictive.

The Turks Head is very warm and welcoming. I have never had a bad meal. The cheese and onion pie is to die for as is the wimberry pie 😋. Real traditional pies. In fact, I would challenge you to find better anywhere. The staff are lovely and genuinely care that you have had a good experience. Nothing is too much trouble.
Want to thank personally to the staff that made my Dads 78th birthday lovely.
Loved the fact staff came out with a candle on top of his favourite pudding & gave us his favourite table in the Restaurant.
Cannot fault this place.
Thank you again to all the staff. xxx
We go regularly, and find this place good value for money. The staff are lovely especially the waiting on staff who seem to put up with some extremely rude customers who you would think were paying Michelin star prices. The atmosphere and layout is lovely and we never have to wait before being asked if we need a drink, if foods okay etc.
Four of us had lunch here. Unfortunately the food for one of us was not satisfactory. When we were asked if we enjoyed our meals my friend mentioned this. They took this meal off the bill which was good of them, and not what my friend was looking for.
We were asked if we wanted desserts and we were given the dessert menu. When the waitress didn't come back for our order after about 15 minutes we caught the eye of another waitress on her way to clean a table. We gave her our order and she informed us that the place closed at 3.00pm, just less than 20 minutes off. Five minutes later we got our desserts and hot drinks. We felt rushed.
We had booked a table for 1.00 and the whole process was dictated by the speed in which our orders were taken and the food served.
At about 2.55 they turned the lights out and so we took the hint and got up and left, leaving one of the drinks which was too hot to drink. I consider this to be very rude.
It’s a homey pub with average food. Don’t get me wrong, it was delicious but nothing too fancy. The staff was ok but quite bland and for some reason you’re not allowed to get bbq sauce as a dip or a splash of it on your plate - they only allow it on a burger which felt a bit strange
