About This Pub
Ah, The Halfway House – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a reliable favourite, you know? Tucked away in Royton, Oldham, it's got that classic vibe where you can pop in for a pint or enjoy a proper meal with friends. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the food really shines; people rave about the homemade pies and specials like the lamb kebab or hake, and it's refreshing to see options for those who aren't big on meat. The staff are an absolute delight, always friendly and making sure everything runs smoothly, which adds to the cosy atmosphere. On the flip side, while the grub is good, it doesn't always wow in a groundbreaking way, and that lovely beer garden might go unused if the weather turns, which is a bit of a shame. Overall, it's a solid spot for a relaxed get-together, with a high rating of 4.3 suggesting most folks leave happy – I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area, just keep an eye on the weather and your expectations for something straightforward and enjoyable.
Pros and Cons

The staff are so warm and friendly; you get that genuine welcome that makes you feel right at home, especially from folks like Vicky and her team.
-
It's got a great atmosphere, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or settling in for a meal – it's buzzing but never overwhelming.
-
They offer a good variety of options, which is brilliant if you're a pescatarian, as there's more than just the usual fish and chips.
-
There's a large beer garden that's perfect for sunny days, adding a nice outdoor vibe to the experience.
Cons
-
Some dishes are good but not particularly standout, so if you're after something truly innovative, it might not quite hit the mark.
-
The beer garden is a gem, but it's weather-dependent – if it's chilly, you might miss out, as one visit did.
-
With the operating hours varying a bit, it can be tricky to plan around, though they're generally open from midday onwards.

Possibly the best creamy garlic mushroom starter I've ever had and the homemade cheese and onion pie was fantastic too.
Great service by lovely staff.
Food was good but nothing special.
Large beer garden which we didn't get to use due to it being cold.
Fantastic pub/restaurant. The food is delicious, luv the cheese and onion pie and yesterday had the meat and potato pie for a change. Its going to be hard which to choose now 😁
Vicky and her team are so nice and friendly. Great atmosphere in the pub too.
You really can't go wrong at this pub. The food and service is excellent. I am a pescatarian and this pub has a wide range of options which is highly unusual as I'm usually restricted to fish and chips or cheese and onion pie at most places. Being a lovely sunny day we had a coffee outside after our meal on the large and well-kept sun terrace. All in all great value and one we keep returning to time after time.
Friday teatime and the pub was nice and busy. Warm and friendly welcome from the team as always. We both had a dish from the specials menu and were very happy. The lamb kebab was tender and the hake with dill sauce was delicious. Both really well prepared and good size portions. Wine was good too. Very happy this pub is our local.
