About This Pub
Ah, The Traveller's Rest – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a proper British countryside getaway. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is where they really shine; folks are raving about the tasty meals, from those mouthwatering salads and skewers to the classic pies and even a bang-up breakfast that leaves you feeling chuffed. The team there seems genuinely lovely, always ready with a smile and that extra touch of patience, which makes the whole experience feel welcoming and relaxed. It's got this charming mix of old-school rustic elements like log fires and low ceilings, blended with a bit of modernisation that keeps things fresh without losing the soul. On the flip side, you might run into a minor hiccup, like staff being a tad pushy about certain menu items, or finding it packed to the gills on a sunny weekend, which could mean a wait or a bit of a squeeze. And if you're not local, the out-of-the-way spot might take some effort to reach, but once you're there, it's well worth it for a chilled afternoon with good drinks and even better company. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a hearty meal and a proper pub atmosphere – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – think hearty classics and seasonal dishes that are cooked to perfection, with rave reviews for everything from lamb skewers to breakfasts.
-
The service is warm and welcoming; staff like Lydia go the extra mile to be patient and kind, making you feel right at home.
-
It's a dog-friendly spot in a beautiful countryside location, ideal for a stroll in the Chilterns Hills followed by a pint in the garden or by the log fire.
-
They've kept that rustic charm while freshening things up, so it's got a cosy, modern vibe without losing its traditional appeal.
-
Prices are reasonable for the quality, offering great value whether you're stopping for a quick meal or a full day out.
Cons
-
There might be the odd quirky moment with service, like pushing certain dishes before you can order others, which could feel a bit off.
-
As it's in a scenic area, it can get busy on nice days, so you might have to wait for a table or deal with a lively crowd.
-
The location in the countryside means it's not the easiest to pop into if you're not nearby, which could be a hassle for some folks.

Awsome food cooked to absolute perfection couldn't say anything to even explain it! Amazing customer service from the team especially from Lydia who was very kind and patient with indecisive kids!
If your thinking about it please go and ask for lydia im sure she'd love it!🤣
Fantastic quality meals!
The quality of their salads, meat & deserts is outstanding. You can truly taste the effort put into each dish. Above is pictures of a lamb skewer with pineapple and mango infused salad with a banoffe infused desert 😅
Had me struggling to get up once done.
10/10.
We visited here before the refurb a couple of years ago so I think this review should start fresh from my old one.
They’ve really brightened the place up and modernised it, but kept some of the vintage charm such as low ceilings, the fireplace, doorframes etc.
The food has drastically improved in my opinion since last time. Whilst I felt the garlic mushrooms were a little bland, the ribeye steak more than made up for it. One of the most melt in your mouth steaks I’ve ever had. Cooked rare to perfection. Good portion sizes.
Service was good, waitresses were friendly and always happy to assist with any queries, further drinks orders. Top marks all round. Very happy.
Really good food, seated us in bar area. Only weird part was they wanted to sell the two steak & venison pies before allowing us to order a chicken & mushroom one. Chicken parm was fantastic as was all the skewers/pies & sarnies!
Honestly, it was one of the best breakfast experiences we have had! I never caught the name of the lady who served us, but she was absolutely lovely, we were the first ones in for brunch, and it was such a nice quiet experience. Food was honestly soum of the best I've had and priced very, very well. I can tell this pub is run very well and the team is beyond professional. We will be planning to go once or twice a month now 💪🏻
