About This Pub
Ah, The Anchor – what a lovely spot it is, tucked away in the Bedfordshire countryside. I've got to say, chatting about this place feels like sharing a pint with friends over what makes it tick. The food is where it really shines; those Greek-inspired dishes are fresh, full of rich flavours, and made with local ingredients where possible – imagine tucking into a massive grilled lamb or some classic pub favourites with a Mediterranean edge. The service is another highlight; the team is so attentive and cheerful, always ready with a smile and that extra touch of hospitality that leaves you feeling well looked after. It's spot on for families too, with a welcoming vibe for kids and groups, and the garden dome sounds like a fun spot for a special occasion. On the flip side, it's not all perfect – a couple of folks have noted that some meals didn't quite hit the mark, like meatballs that were a tad hard or portions that left them wanting more, which is a shame when the rest is so good. Still, with a solid 4.5 rating buzzing around, it's clear the positives outweigh the niggles. If you're a pub goer looking for something a bit different, I'd say give The Anchor a go – it's ideal for a relaxed evening or a weekend treat, just maybe check the menu in advance to pick your favourites and book a table to avoid any queues. All in all, it's a warm-hearted place that does community right, blending the best of British pub life with a splash of Greek sunshine.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The Greek food here is absolutely spot on – think authentic, homemade dishes that burst with flavour, like that perfectly cooked lamb or the famous baklava that's just heavenly.
-
The staff are so friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home with their attentive service and that genuine Greek hospitality vibe.
-
It's a charming village pub with a cosy atmosphere, perfect for family gatherings or a relaxed meal, and they've got options for delivery or takeaway which is brilliant for a lazy night in.
-
They've nailed the community feel, with specials like the weekend grills and a bar full of quality beers, wines, and Greek spirits that keep things lively.
Cons
-
A few dishes might not always come out perfectly, like some reviewers mentioned the meatballs being a bit tough or portions feeling on the small side now and then.
-
It can get quite busy, especially for events or on weekends, so you might need to book ahead to avoid waiting around.
-
While the overall experience is great, it's more focused on the Greek side of things, so if you're after traditional pub grub without the Mediterranean twist, it might not be your first choice.

Our visit to The Anchor was brilliant. The food was so tasty and the service was friendly and attentive.
I went with a Greek friend of mine who recommended this place, so I knew the Greek food was authentic!
We had the 1kg grilled Lamb - it was really nicely cooked and seasoned well. So so tasty!!! We ordered a few starters too and they were all delicious, and finished it off with a tiramisu- yummy!!
The location is lovely, lots of space and great for kids with a large garden and play area. They have a car park but over weekends they get busy, so chances are you’ll need to park outside - easy enough as no parking restrictions.
I’ll definitely be returning to The Anchor and recommending it to my friends!
We had a wonderful birthday celebration at this pub. We had a Pod to ourselves. The part of the experience are the staff, they were just fantastic. My group enjoyed their meal, I had some meatballs which was hard. The portion was not grea either. We had a great time.
Regularly come to The Anchor and it never disappoints. The food is delicious, the staff are friendly and attentive, and always seem happy to see you. Oh, and the baklava..... Highly recommend checking it out.
We enjoyed ourselves at the Anchor. The recipes were so delicious and we enjoyed our special day in the garden dome!
Husband and I had a lovely meal this evening.
Pork Belly and Lamb on the bone from The Weekend Grill menu, quality of the meat was fabulous, and very tasty.
Lamb was cooked perfectly, and and the pork was just right.
The owner Sofia was friendly and curious, offered a detailed account of the ingredients of the various dips. She ensured our drinks did not go dry and was a very lovely friendly lady.
The team were attentive and hardworking and friendly also, they make cocktails/mocktails order and also saw some excellent milkshake made with ice cream, also looked delicious.
The pub was busy, and had a good atmosphere, with regulars and families alike.
The menu had lots on offer and we can't wait to come back.
Keep up the great work Sofia and the team.
