About This Pub

Ah, The Travellers Rest – it's one of those pubs that just gets the basics spot on, you know? From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the staff are an absolute delight, always going the extra mile to make you feel welcome, whether you're there for a quick lager or handling something unexpected like a pal not feeling great. The atmosphere is nicely relaxed and cosy, ideal for nipping in with the family or just unwinding after a long day, and little touches like remembering your usual drink or having WiFi and charging spots really add to the charm. On the flip side, it does seem a tad quieter these days compared to its busier past, which might not suit everyone if you're craving a lively buzz, and it's a bit of a shame there's no website for easy planning. All in all, though, it's a reliable little gem in Gateshead that I'd happily recommend for a straightforward, feel-good pub experience – honest, it's got that community spirit that's hard to beat.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got a lovely, cosy atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed catch-up or a quick pint, even on weekdays when it stays surprisingly lively.
  • They remember your drink preferences, which adds a real personal touch and makes every visit feel special.
  • Practical perks like free WiFi and charging points for your phone or laptop mean you can stay connected without any hassle.
  • They're super accommodating, whether you're popping in for a rest with the family or dealing with an unexpected situation – it's all handled with care.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit quieter than in its heyday, so if you're after a buzzing crowd, it might not always hit the mark.
  • There's no website to check out menus or events in advance, which is a minor nuisance if you're planning ahead.

Very friendly staff, great cool lager, WiFi and I was able to charge both my laptop and my phone. I have not ordered any food but it looks like is always busy so is not dead quiet even on week days. Do recommend!

Popped in with my three-year-old for a quick rest due to missing a bus. Staff were super accommodating and helpful, and made us very welcome in a cosy relaxed atmosphere.

We used to frequent this place in the 80s when it was a very busy pub called Cordwainers. Sadly like so many local pubs it's no where near as busy. Still has a friendly and pleasant atmosphere. Nice staff too. Be aware though. If you're used to other venues drinks, this place certainly give you a full strength measures.

They get the simple stuff right. They remember what you drink from order to order. The place is clean and seems well run. Couldn't fault it.
