About This Pub

Ah, The Traders Arms – it's one of those cosy spots in Mellor that just feels like a proper local haunt, tucked away between Preston and Blackburn with some cracking views to boot. From what I've gathered from folks' chats, the food really steals the show; think homemade dishes with fresh, local ingredients, and portions so big you'll be talking about them for days. The staff often come across as genuinely helpful, sorting out tables and serving with a smile, which makes for a relaxed evening whether you're popping in for a quick pint or a family meal. They've got all sorts on offer, from Sunday roasts that sound mouthwatering to live entertainment and Sky Sports for when you fancy a bit more buzz. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – it can fill up quick as a flash, so booking ahead is a must to avoid disappointment, and there have been a few grumbles about the odd unfriendly face or a pint that didn't quite hit the spot. Still, with an overall solid rating and plenty of rave reviews about the value and atmosphere, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area; just keep an eye on those busier times and you'll likely have a brilliant time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – homemade with local ingredients, and portions are generous, making it a real treat for a hearty meal.
  • Friendly staff who go the extra mile; they've sorted out tables when it's busy and provided quick, helpful service that makes you feel right at home.
  • Great value deals like the Monday madness special, where you get loads for your money, perfect for a budget-friendly night out.
  • Lovely atmosphere with stunning views, a beer garden for sunny days, and options like Sky Sports and live entertainment to keep things lively.
  • Variety of menus caters to everyone, from families to those in a rush, with handy apps for ordering from outside.
Cons
  • It can get fully booked in a flash, so you might end up waiting or settling for outdoor seating if you haven't reserved ahead.
  • Service isn't always perfect; there have been times when staff seemed a bit unwelcoming, which can put a damper on the evening.
  • Occasional slip-ups with drinks, like a dodgy pint that doesn't hit the mark, which is a shame for a place known for its ales.
  • While most meals are brilliant, there might be the odd dish that doesn't quite live up to expectations, based on a few experiences shared.

Called in on the off chance for an evening meal last night and the place was fully booked. The waiting staff did say we could sit outside and eat which we were more than happy to do. Within a couple of minutes the same waitress had found us a table inside which was unexpected but much appreciated. All the waiting staff were so friendly and ensured that everyone received the best experience whilst the pub was so busy. The food was amazing and I have to say probably the best burger I have ever had. I would highly recommend and would visit again if in the area. Amazing staff and fantastic food made for a lovely evening.

Went for a family meal was greeted by an elder woman who made us feel extremely unwelcome from the start. On to the meal, I ordered the fish and chips and the started with the ribs with a Guinness. The Guinness seemed like it had been poured from a dead barrel. the fish was really nice however the chips were soggy and tasteless. The ribs could be the worst thing I have ever put in my mouth not sure what the sauce was but it gave the ribs an aniseed taste which lead to a family member who tried it to spit it out. The saving grace of the visit there was the blonde lady (tattoo on the back of her neck) she seemed to be carrying the place on her shoulders she never stopped moving and was really nice. The other waitress (blonde) was slow and seemed a hinderance for the helpful waitress mentioned above. On leaving, the soulless lady who greeted us made sure we left the place with the same energy! Will not be returning think we will stick to spread eagle or the millstone which is on the same road. Thought the sign outside which I noticed on leaving was pretty ironic after the experience.

Went on a Tuesday evening, it was quite busy but we had booked. We had garlic mushrooms/soup. Good portion size and served hot; main course was veg stroganoff/veggie burger. Both good sized portions again. Service was quick and staff were friendly and helpful.

Monday madness special. Fish, chips, mushy peas, gravy, curry sauce, bread and butter and tarter sauce and a hot or soft drink. £28:50 for two people. The fish were like whales! So much food I took a picture after I had eaten my fill. We have now got a takeaway for tea.

Excellent Sunday roast again at the Traders. Fitted us in when we went although lots of tables were already booked. Staff service at the bar and waitresses was faultless. Nice to see a pub serving excellent food and service 5*****
