About This Pub
Ah, The Clog & Billycock – it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles from the get-go, with its open fires, rustic floors, and that homely touch that's been part of the village for over 150 years. From what I've gathered from the reviews and the website, it's all about that perfect balance of tradition and quality – think hearty, well-prepared meals like succulent fish pie or a solid burger, paired with an impressive lineup of cask ales and wines that cater to all palates. The outdoor terrace is a highlight, especially on a sunny day, turning into a cosy retreat with fires when the weather turns. The staff really shine too, being super friendly and attentive, which makes the whole experience feel personal and inviting. On the flip side, you might find yourself waiting a tad longer for your grub, and some folks have noted that certain dishes could use a bit more in the way of veg to round them out. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed meal or a catch-up with mates – just keep in mind it's a bit more polished than your average local, so it's great for when you fancy something a step up without breaking the bank.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely lovely, with a cosy open fire, wooden floors, and comfortable nooks that make you feel right at home.
-
The food is spot on – think delicious dishes like fish pie and burgers that are well-cooked and full of flavour, plus a seasonal menu that keeps things fresh.
-
They've got a fantastic selection of cask ales, gins, malts, and wines, so there's something for every taste, whether you're after a pint or a glass of something special.
-
The outdoor terrace is a real suntrap in summer, and it's even got covered seating with an open fire for chillier days – perfect for al fresco drinks.
-
The staff are genuinely friendly and helpful, making everyone feel welcome from the moment you walk in.
Cons
-
There might be a slight wait for your food at times, which can feel a bit longer than expected if you're in a rush.
-
Some dishes could do with a few more veggies or sides to make them feel more complete, like the fish pie that one person mentioned.
-
It's a tad on the upmarket side, so if you're after a no-fuss, budget pint, it might not be the most casual spot in town.

Great bar and restaurant. Large outdoor seating area. Great for summer. The food was good quality. Nice atmosphere.
This is an upmarket, destination site and justifies its stance with its menu, ambience, quality and value. The house burger was routine but fine and the fish pie was really very good. I'd have liked a little more veg with the pie and the fries, although skin-on premium, were not homemade or otherwise distinctive. Would we go again, if we were in the area - definitely.
Great place. Very friendly staff, table service. Had a good choice, it’s a seasonal menu so it does change. Salt and pepper squid starter. chicken with a tarragon sauce with chorizo mash, duck wrap salad followed by a sticky toffee pudding for us. The food was delicious, perfectly cooked. Good selection of beers out the way a bit so need a designated driver. Open fire with comfy seating and a large amount of dining tables. Not all open plan so you don’t feel overcrowded. I would return
I haven't been for a few years to the Clog and I'm thrilled we went today.
The wait was slightly longer than expected but the food...sensational so worth the wait.
I had a baby with me who needed changing and the changing room was not only clean and tidy but it had lots of changing things for you to use if needed which was fantastic. I've never been to a restaurant that's offered this service I was really impressed.
The staff were also lovely and attentive.
Thank you for a lovely enjoyable experience. I can't wait to return.
Lovely pub in a beautiful location. The staff were really friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the start. The food looked great and tasted just as good. Overall, a really nice experience—would definitely come back!
