About This Pub

Ah, The Bay Horse – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away in Osbaldeston. I've got to say, what really stands out is their fantastic range of drinks; whether you're after a smooth cask ale or something a bit fancier like their gins, it's spot on for unwinding after a long day. The food's another highlight – think fresh, locally sourced dishes that hit the spot, especially their Sunday roasts, and it's all served in a spacious, clean environment that's perfect for groups or a quiet corner. The entertainment lineup keeps things lively, with quiz nights and the like, and that beer garden is an absolute treat when the sun's out. On the flip side, though, service can be inconsistent; I've heard tales of having to ask multiple times for things, which might put a dampener on your visit if it's a busy evening. Plus, the grub isn't always top-notch – some say it's just average, and you might find certain items sold out if you don't get in early. All in all, it's a friendly, traditional spot with a warm atmosphere, but it's worth going in with realistic expectations to enjoy the best of what it offers. If you're in the area, I'd definitely recommend giving it a go for a pint and a chat – you might just find your new favourite haunt!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Bay Horse has a cracking selection of drinks, from cask ales and draught lagers to wines, spirits, and a wonderful array of gins – perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
  • They serve up quality, locally sourced food that's spot on, especially the Sunday roasts and other fresh meals, making it a great spot for a hearty lunch or dinner.
  • The staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming, always up for a chat, which really adds to that cosy, community feel of the place.
  • There's plenty of entertainment on offer, like quiz nights, race nights, and pool competitions, plus a lovely beer garden with a heated pergola for those outdoor sessions when the weather plays ball.
  • The pub feels spacious, clean, and has a traditional charm with modern touches, making it comfortable whether you're popping in for a quick pint or settling in for the evening.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit hit or miss at times, with some folks mentioning they had to chase staff for things, which might leave you feeling a tad overlooked on busier nights.
  • The food isn't always a winner – a few have said it's just okay or 'meh', so it might not blow your socks off if you're after something truly exceptional.
  • Stock can run low quickly, especially if a big group beats you to it, meaning you might miss out on popular items.
  • It has that classic old pub vibe, but some bits could do with a refresh to keep things feeling fresh and up-to-date.

Food was all a bit "meh", service was very lax and we had to keep repeatedly asking for things. We were in before a big party and a lot of items were already sold out. I hope the big party got what they needed. We went because we had a voucher and probably wouldn't go back. As you can see in the picture the cheese hadn't even been melted before being placed on my burger.

We had no chance to taste the food yet,but the place is cool, you can tell they spent on it,Clean tables, kind staff members, and planty spaces to park the vehicles.

Had a fantastic lunch yesterday, the food was beautifully cooked and the pub feels really light and spacious. The staff were really attentive and friendly. I had the BBQ maple bacon burger which came with fries. The portion was plenty big enough but I was starving so I had ordered the honey buffalo chicken tenders as well. I left absolutely stuffed but it was so tasty. Will definitely be back again.

Old traditional pub, possibly in need of a bit of updating but the staff are very welcoming and friendly - ready to have a chat. Very popular with locals. Inside it still has the old bar and bar stools which is good to see in a traditional pub, and a good range of draught beers. There is a very large car park with parking spaces for disabled. A ramp up to the door for wheelchairs and wide doors make it very accessible. For the better weather there is a large beer garden, although this is next to the busy main road. Food is basic 'pub grub' with nothing fancy but it was cooked well and very tasty and portions were very large with reasonable prices. The kitchen has a top grade of 5 hygiene rating. TVs with Sky Sports are dotted around and a pool table and dartboard. In all, a great place to while away some time, afternoon or evening.
