About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Town Wall, it's got that genuine pub warmth that makes you feel right at home in Newcastle. The food really stands out – it's full of flavour and hits the spot, especially for a casual lunch or dinner. The staff are absolute gems, always friendly and on point, which adds to the welcoming vibe in this historic building. Plus, if you're popping in with your dog, they'll make them feel just as special with treats and water. On the flip side, I've heard a few mates mention that some drinks don't quite measure up; those Bloody Marys can be a bit bland and watery, which might put a dampener on things. And while the atmosphere is generally spot on, there have been times when nearby tables got a bit lively, or someone was let down by their meal, like a Sunday roast that didn't impress. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out, but it's worth going in with an open mind – the highs make it worth the visit, and the lows are just part and parcel of pub life.

Pros and Cons

  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready with a smile and quick service.
  • It's set in a historic building with a warm, inviting atmosphere that gives it that proper pub charm.
  • They're super dog-friendly, offering water and biscuits for your furry friends, which is just lovely if you're out with pets.
  • A great selection of real ales and drinks, perfect for enjoying a pint in good company.
Cons
  • Some drinks, like the Bloody Marys, can be a bit underwhelming and taste watered down, which is a shame.
  • There have been a few reports of disappointing meals, such as the Sunday roast not living up to expectations.
  • Occasionally, you might end up near a rowdy table, which can disrupt the vibe, even if it's not the pub's fault.

Went here for Sunday lunch and pleasantly surprised, lots of flavour which is always a plus. Great atmosphere in a historic building. Service was prompt and friendly. Would go again.

Paulicarus wandered back to the Station and spotted this large pub. Four real ales including a new East Sussex brewery for me. Lakedown from Burwash. A 5.7 % IPA, Harmonium. Only had a half as a result. The rooms revolve around a central bar. There is a private hire room downstairs. Fifty years ago Newcastle was a keg beer desert with over 90% of the pubs Scottish and Newcastle keg only pubs. There were only a handful of real ale outlets. Food served.

Great place to eat and drink. A proper pub with a friendly team of staff. The best thing is that they are dog friendly and even serve your hairy friends water and biscuits.

The table next to us was a bit drunk. Not the bars fault. Staff were great food was great and on time. Drinks were delicious and decor was shabby chic. Big bar very good day out. The staff made it

I was recommended this pub for Sunday roast and was sadly disappointed. Firstly the staff were lovely - Josh in particular was super friendly, accomodating and looked after us well. We ordered two bloody marys which tasted like water with a dash of tomato and pepper, we couldn't finish them. I had the beef roast - the meat was cooked well and juicy although the edge was chewy. The potatoes were very dry and felt like they had been reheated a few times. My friend had the pork roast which was very dry and needed a lot of gravy to compensate. The carrots and Yorkshire puddings were great. For dessert we had the crumble (fine) and chocolate brownie, which wasn't warm and was dry and crumbly. Overall - disappointed with the food but the staff and location are good.
