About This Pub

Ah, The Mile Castle in Newcastle – it's one of those Wetherspoons spots that really hits the mark for a laid-back pint or a casual meal with mates. I love how it's spread out over three floors, giving you plenty of space to settle in, whether you're up for people-watching or just chatting away in a quieter corner. The food and drink selection is spot on, with the usual affordable options that never disappoint, and the staff are generally cheerful, making you feel right at home. It's bang in the city centre, just a stone's throw from the station, which is brilliant if you're popping in after a day out or before catching a train. On the flip side, it does get incredibly busy at times, especially on a Saturday afternoon, so you might end up playing musical chairs to find a table. And let's be honest, some of the portions, like that small fish and chips, could do with being a tad bigger for the price. Plus, if you're after a quick bite, the waits can be a bit frustrating – I heard of someone waiting ages for a breakfast wrap, and there were a few order mix-ups that put a dampener on things. Overall, though, with a solid 4.1 rating from loads of folks, it's a dependable choice for a good night out, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and a bit of patience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's a spacious pub spread over three floors, making it feel open and accommodating even when it's busy.
  • They've got a solid selection of food and drinks, which is what you'd expect from a Wetherspoons – always reliable for a good pint or a hearty meal.
  • The staff are generally pleasant and polite, adding a welcoming touch to your visit.
  • Perfectly located in the heart of Newcastle, right near the station, so it's super convenient for a quick stop or a night out.
Cons
  • It can get absolutely rammed, especially on weekends, which might make finding a seat a bit of a challenge.
  • Portion sizes for some dishes, like the fish and chips, can be on the smaller side, leaving you wanting a bit more for your money.
  • Wait times for food can drag on, as one person mentioned waiting 45 minutes for a breakfast wrap – not ideal if you're in a hurry.
  • There might be the odd mix-up with orders, like extras not coming as expected or items missing altogether.

Great Wetherspoons pub in the heart of Newcastle. Spread over 3 floors, so very spacious. Good selection of food and drink, as is the norm. All staff were pleasant and polite.

Not staying, just popped in for a bite to eat and a drink….Saturday afternoon and rammed to the rafters, all 3 floors! Managed to get a chair, then found a table in the corner🥴 Had the small fish and chips, they should call it the very small fish and chips! It was just over a tenner with a pint, so I suppose fair for the money, but very small piece of fish.

A centrally located hotel a short distance from Newcastle main station. A clean hotel with spacious rooms. Tea and coffee are available in rooms. Beds are very comfortable, and the bathroom is spacious. Located next to the Mile Castle pubover 3 floors, which can get busy at times.

Went for breakfast, waited 45 mins for a breakfast wrap. Bit of an excessive wait to be honest. Asked for an extra hash brown in the wrap and it came on the side, which was strange. Ordered and paid for 2 pieces of toast too and only got 1, but by the time the food came out I had to leave as my coach was leaving and I had a little walk so had to eat it on the go, couldn't risk another 45 min wait for a piece of toast to be cooked, or a 10 min wait trying to get a £1 odd refund. Shame to give a 2* really as the wrap was really quite nice. Maybe I'll go back one day and amend the score. Also while we were there one of the girls dropped a glass and the manager walking the floor seemed to berate her loudly. May have been tongue in cheek, but didn't come across that way. Location seemed decent though

Five-Star Experience in the Heart of Newcastle – Almost Perfect! From the moment I arrived, I was thoroughly impressed by every aspect of this hotel. The location is fantastic—right in the heart of Newcastle, close to vibrant bars, restaurants, and major attractions, yet still peaceful enough for a relaxing night’s sleep. The staff were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and genuinely helpful. Check-in was smooth, and they made me feel at home straight away. My room was spotless, stylishly decorated, and came with all the comforts you'd expect from a quality stay including a super comfy bed. The only real disappointment was the lack of Wi-Fi, which felt like a surprising omission in an otherwise modern and well-equipped hotel. It would have made a big difference, especially for those of us who like to stay connected during our travels. That said, everything else about my stay was wonderful. If you're visiting Newcastle and don’t mind being offline for a bit, this hotel is still an excellent choice. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!
