About This Pub

Ah, The Dog & Parrot – it's one of those pubs in Newcastle that just draws you in with its infectious energy. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are usually spot on, always up for a chat and quick with your drinks, especially if you're after something special like their treble vodkas. The place has this fantastic punk and rock theme, complete with killer music and eye-catching wall art that makes every visit feel like a proper night out. There's even a billiard table and a terrace upstairs for when you fancy a change of scene or a breath of fresh air. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – I've heard a few tales of service slipping when it's packed, with some folks waiting ages or feeling like they're not getting the same attention as others, which is a shame because it could sour an otherwise great evening. Overall, it's a solid choice for a fun get-together, and with that 4.3 rating, most people seem to leave with a smile, so I'd say it's worth popping in for a pint and seeing what all the fuss is about.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are generally friendly and provide top-notch service, making you feel right at home.
  • They've got a cracking drink selection, with highlights like those treble vodkas that really hit the spot.
  • The atmosphere is brilliant – think punk and rock vibes with amazing music and cool wall art that gives the place real character.
  • It's got a welcoming local feel that's perfect for both regulars and newcomers, plus fun extras like a billiard table and an upstairs terrace for a bit of variety.
Cons
  • Service can be inconsistent at busy times, with some reports of long waits and staff seeming a bit abrupt or playing favourites.
  • There might be the odd hiccup, like not everyone getting served fairly, which could put a dampener on your night.

One of the best venues in Newcastle. The staff provide good service, the drink selection is good (especially the treble vodkas) and the music/atmosphere is amazing.

A great pub with friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the local area. There is a nice atmosphere of local friendliness combined with the local way of life which is reassuring when people are in a new area. The theme had a punk/rock vibe and had great wall art to match. I have heard that there are live bands that play here however I unfortunately didn't get the chance to stick around to see as I was a bit rushed for time. They also have a selection of food you can order. Drinks are at reasonable prices for the local area and students get a discount (so bring your student I.D. 😄 Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area, and check out the live performances if they are on in the evening. 😊

Absolutely disgraceful service 2 girls on the bar pub was packed a guy walked into the pub got served straight away after we had been waiting ten minutes to be served when I questioned the bar person she abruptly told me he worked there she stormed off the guy didn't pay for drinks either but we were asked to leave which we did but then went to another pub and the door person asked us to leave without giving reasons. We are all professional people good jobs etc and the oldest in our group was over 70 and the youngest 50 what did these people expect us to get upto we were treated horrendously all because we waited over ten minutes to be served

I liked this bar very much. Cool! There is a billiard table inside. There is a terrace area on the upper floor. I went to drink beer. I will go again. I liked the music.
