About This Pub

Ah, Tilleys Bar, what a lovely find in the heart of Newcastle! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place really knows how to make you feel welcome with staff who go above and beyond to ensure everyone's having a good time. I love how they've kept things comfortable and cosy inside, even after a refurb, and that low-volume music is a breath of fresh air – it's just right for chatting away without any hassle. The drinks selection is spot on too, with pints that are poured to perfection, and it's brilliant for catching a bit of sport on the screens. Of course, it's not without its little downsides; being closed a couple of days a week means you have to time your visits carefully, and their website's a bit of a let-down if you're trying to look up the latest info. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for anyone after a proper pub experience – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positive vibes from the regulars really shine through.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant and make you feel right at home with their friendly service and welcoming vibes.
  • It's got a really comfortable atmosphere, perfect for relaxing with low-volume music that lets you chat without shouting.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of beverages, including excellent pints that are pulled just right.
  • The pub has a great spot in the city centre, ideal for popping in after a match or for a casual catch-up with mates.
  • It's well-maintained with a nice refurb inside, and they show sports on the screens, which adds to the lively feel.
Cons
  • It's only open five days a week, so you might have to plan around the closures if you're keen for a midweek pint.
  • Their online presence seems a bit spotty, with the website not loading properly, which could make it tricky to check details beforehand.

First time for me at this Good Beer Guide entry in 2024. An old trad exterior but has been completely refurbished inside. Always appreciate when the barman pulls the beer standing in the pipes overnight off before serving resulting in an excellent pint. TNT Sports on the screens, Smooth music on in the background. Charging points dotted around.
