About This Pub

Ah, The Tollgate Stonehouse – it's one of those places in Coventry that you pop into for a reliable meal and end up having a right good time. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the food's a real winner; those carvery roasts with succulent beef and gammon are spot on, and the stone-baked pizzas with fresh dough are just the thing for a satisfying bite. Pair that with attentive staff who go the extra mile – think helpful servers like Reece or Emily making sure everything's just right – and you've got a welcoming vibe that's perfect for catching up with mates or treating the family. The deals are a bonus too; affordable prices and perks like 50% off burgers or the rewards app mean you can enjoy without breaking the bank, and it's heartening to see them supporting local charities. On the flip side, it's a shame about the carvery sides – the frozen veg and yorkshire puds don't quite live up to the fresh meats, and that overcooked turkey can be a bit of a letdown. Plus, with breakfast only on weekends and the carvery wrapping up early, it might not fit every schedule. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back pub outing, as long as you keep expectations realistic and maybe skip the turkey!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with tasty carvery meats like beef and gammon, and those stone-baked pizzas made from fresh dough that really hit the spot.
  • The staff are wonderfully attentive and friendly – it's like they've got a knack for making you feel right at home, with mentions of great service from folks like Reece and Emily.
  • Prices are brilliant value, especially with all those daily deals like 50% off pizzas and burgers, plus the rewards app that lets you earn free meals.
  • It's a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a family get-together or a casual meal, and they even support local charities, which is a nice touch.
Cons
  • Some of the carvery sides, like the veg and yorkshire puddings, are frozen rather than fresh, which takes away from that homemade feel.
  • The turkey can sometimes be overcooked and a bit tough, making it less enjoyable compared to the other meats.
  • Breakfast is only on offer at the weekends, so if you're after a midweek fry-up, you'll have to look elsewhere.
  • The carvery's only available from midday to 7pm, which might not suit everyone wanting a later bite.

Sadly a very basic carvery. No fresh veg, all frozen. The options were carrots, peas, sweetcorn and cauliflower cheese, frozen yorkies too. The roast potatoes were fresh and nicely cooked. The beef was really tasty and the gammon was nice but the turkey was overcooked and couldn’t be sliced, it just broke up into bits. Serving fresh veg would have made all the difference. It was edible but very bland.

Had a lovely family meal out this evening. Have never been to Tollgate Stonehouse before. We order a little of everything and fully enjoyed it all! Reece was very attentive and was always on hand. Food delivered hot and tables were cleared away quickly. Thank you! Will return again if we are in the area :)

Really enjoyable, good food and very relaxed atmosphere. The staff were very attentive, Emily was very courteous and efficient. One of, if not my favourite carvery in the west Midlands.
