About This Pub

Ah, The Thirsty Goat, what a gem in the heart of Belfast! I've got to say, it's one of those places that just makes you smile as soon as you step inside – the staff are absolute stars, always chatting away and making sure you're looked after, which really adds to the fun. The food's a real highlight; think tasty Irish dishes like Boxty and stews that are packed with flavour and feel like a proper treat without costing a fortune. And don't get me started on the drinks – their own IPA is smooth and full of citrusy goodness, plus there's a great range of beers and spirits to choose from. The live music and beer garden create such a buzzing atmosphere, perfect for unwinding after a long day or catching up with pals over a singalong. But, to be fair, it's not all perfect; it can come across as a bit dated in places, and if they're understaffed, things might feel a tad rushed, which is a shame when you're trying to enjoy your meal. Oh, and the toilets could do with a bit more attention – they're not the cleanest, and the lighting's a bit gloomy, so you might want to keep that in mind. Still, on the whole, it's a welcoming spot that's worth a visit if you're in the area, especially for the good vibes and solid grub. I'd say give it a go and see for yourself; it's got that authentic Belfast charm that keeps you coming back.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The food is spot on, with delicious Irish classics like Boxty and stews that really hit the spot – I've heard rave reviews about the lamb stew and specials.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere, especially with live entertainment and a beer garden that's perfect for relaxing with a pint or singing along to some tunes.
  • The drink selection is fantastic, including their own golden IPA with lovely citrusy flavours, and it's all at a moderate price that won't break the bank.
  • Overall, it's a cosy spot in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter that's buzzing with energy and great for catching up with mates.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit dated and quirky, which might not suit everyone if you're after something more modern.
  • Service can sometimes be rushed if they're short on staff, even when it's not too busy, which might put a dampener on things.
  • The toilets aren't always up to scratch – they're a tad unclean and the lighting's a bit dim, so it's worth noting if you're fussy about that.
  • A few folks have mentioned it being on the quieter side at times, so it might not always have that lively vibe you're hoping for.

Fantastic bar for drinks and food. The lady serving us was fantastic and really jovial. Whoever makes the coconut margaritas.... Can I say that they were the best we tasted all weekend and we tasted a few 🙃. We ordered a lamb stew and a Boxty from the specials board that the lady told us about. Both of us were absolutely stuffed with the portion sizes. Definitely recommend a visit if you're in Belfast.

Fantastic food and amazing atmosphere staff were very friendly phoned 5 mins before we turned up and were seated immediately. We got the chicken stack with colcannon mash and tobacco onions Irish stew and fish and chips between the three of us. With drinks the entire bill came to just under £70 but the food was absolutely phenomenal. The chicken and mash was an absolute delight the chicken was moist and flavourful I normally heavily season my food however I didn’t need any on it was perfect. The Irish stew was so hearty and full of flavour comes with two slices of bread plenty of vegetables in it and gravy, what a treat! The fish and chips was so crispy and flakey chips had a nice crunch and fluffy on the inside and the fish it’s self was crisp moist and Lilly white inside cooked to perfection. Drinks where reasonably priced we also had a traditional Irish coffee which was an experience in and of it’s self.

Great spot!!! Very friendly group of people from the manager to the hostess to the barkeeps! Food was tasty and very well executed.. Mushrooms were a great app Cauliflower had a nice kick of heat and sweet Fish and chips was delicious, a whole portion of cod with a mild tartar sauce and mushy peas (these needed some love.. tasted frozen with zero seasonings or texture) Fish was cooked perfectly & seasoned well Chips needed to be cooked a bit more & could have used more seasoning directly out of the fryer Curry was tasty & added a great acidic flavor Tarter needs seasoning as well Other than that the place is beautiful & the food (other than a bit of s&p was executed & cooked very well!

Very dated and quirky place. Maybe short staffed when we went there as the lady who served us seemed very rushed though there wasn't that many people in there. Toilets on the low level of cleanliness side need better lighting In there also as very dull. There was 8 of us which majority had the roast dinner which was a big let down for the price. £19.50 for a beef roast - 1 piece of beef that was very tough to chew and only 1 small roast potato also mash and gravy very salty . And to top it off added a service charge on top - was not impressed at all.

Recommend by a friend’s son, bar and restaurant. Walked in and was greeted by someone straight away . Took us to a lovely seat , lots to choose from the food and drink menu. Two of us had the Christmas roast dinner and one of us had the chicken , mash and vegetables. The atmosphere in this place was amazing. Staff were very attentive always making sure we had everything we needed . We all can say without a doubt this was the best food we have eaten , the flavours were great and plenty to eat too. I have never been a fan of Brussel sprouts but whatever they do to them were fantastic. The three of us shared a sticky toffee pudding too. Customer service 10/10 the same for the food and the atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is visiting Belfast .
