About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Swan Hotel – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper British pub, all snug and welcoming, right by the Thames in Staines. From what I've gathered from folks' chats online, the food is a standout; imagine tucking into a top-notch roast with tender beef or porchetta, paired with perfectly crispy potatoes and a generous Yorkshire pud – it's no wonder people are raving about it. The staff really shine too; they're that friendly sort who make you feel right at home, whether you're popping in for lunch or need a bit of help with accessibility. And don't get me started on the views – grabbing a seat on the terrace with the river sparkling away is pure bliss, especially with a pint in hand. It's got this charming 16th Century vibe with unique rooms that add a fun twist if you're staying over. But, fair's fair, it looks like it's closed right now, which is a bit of a letdown, and you might find the smoking area gets a bit lively on evenings, so it's not always the quietest spot. Still, if you can catch it when it's open, it's well worth a visit for a good old British pub experience – just pop online to check the details first, and you'll be sorted for a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – their roasts are spot-on, with perfectly cooked beef and porchetta, served with a lovely medley of veg and those massive Yorkshires that hit the spot every time.
  • The staff are so warm and welcoming; they're attentive without being over the top, and they go out of their way to accommodate everyone, which makes for a really pleasant visit.
  • You've got those stunning views of the Thames right there – sitting on the terrace with a well-poured pint is just the ticket for a relaxing afternoon.
  • It's a charming 16th Century spot with unique, stylish rooms that feel homely and full of character, making it a great choice if you're looking to stay over.
Cons
  • It appears to be closed at the moment, which is a real shame as it might put a damper on any spontaneous plans.
  • There can be a bit of a crowd in the smoking area, especially on busy nights, which might make it feel a tad overwhelming if you're after a quiet escape.
  • Operating hours aren't clearly listed, so you might end up faffing about trying to confirm when it's open before you head out.

Stopped here for Sunday Lunch, I have to say that this is the best roast I have had in a long time! I had the beef and my wife had the porchetta, beautifully served with a medley of roasted veg, perfect potatoes and a massive Yorkshire! Highly recommended!!

What an amazing spontaneous stop for my wife and I. Warmly welcomed by friendly, happy staff. We were asked if we would prefer to sit indoors or on the terrace. We chose the terrace which presented such a wonderful view of the Thames River. Lot's of boat action, which really added to the ambience of the afternoon. Quite a few customer's moored their boats up against the floating dock to pop in for some food and drinks. My wife ordered the Salmon, I had the Rump Steak. Our food was so so amazing, tasty and really good quality. Both dishes were well presented. The fries have got to be the best I have ever had..."what's the secret Chef?" We then finished off with a scrumptious dessert each. Well done to all for a wonderful few hours spent at The Swan.

We had lunch today and it was fabulous . From the moment we arrived we had great service. I have a slight disability due to an accident, the staff were so accommodating . Our waitress was so sweet, I believe her name was Alonia. She was attentive but not intrusive. We will be back .

The friendliest staff and the a very homely inn in which to crash for a few days in the area. The food was exceptional. The Guinness was well poured. Pity about the crowd in the smoking area outside on a Friday night. Would definitely stay there again if given the chance

We have stayed at this little gem of a place a few times now and every time it is a new experience because of the unique nature of the building that is lopsided. All the rooms have their own unique design and features that is highly anticipated every time we book on what room will we be next be visiting. The meals are always delicious and served by pleasant and friendly staff. They are pet friendly which is always a ⭐️⭐️⭐️
