About This Pub

Ah, The Sun Inn in Richmond – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews and the buzz around it, it's a family-run spot that's all about hearty, home-cooked food that'll warm you up on a chilly evening, with standout dishes like Joe's Steak Pie getting plenty of praise. The atmosphere is spot on, especially if you're into rugby; it's alive with energy on match days, and they've got screens for live sport both inside and out. The drinks menu is solid too, offering a nice mix of ales, wines, and cocktails that cater to all tastes. Service-wise, it sounds like the team are genuinely friendly and attentive, which always makes a visit more enjoyable. On the flip side, it does get heaving at peak times, so you might have to queue or book ahead, and parking isn't the easiest if you're driving over. Overall, though, it's a welcoming place that strikes a great balance – not too fancy, just right for a relaxed catch-up with mates over a pint and a plate of something delicious. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth checking out for that authentic pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with hearty home-cooked classics like Joe's Steak Pie that really hit the spot after a long day.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere, especially for rugby fans – buzzing on match days with live sport on the screens and plenty of cosy spots to settle in.
  • The service is warm and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • A great selection of drinks on offer, from Fuller’s ales and guest beers to cocktails and wines, perfect for any occasion.
  • Lovely outdoor seating area for enjoying a pint in the sunshine, plus it's a historic pub with a real community feel.
Cons
  • It can get pretty packed during busy times like rugby events, so you might end up waiting for a table or dealing with a bit of a crowd.
  • Parking is paid and not right outside, which could be a hassle if you're popping in by car.
  • While most folks rave about it, there are mixed opinions online, so it might not appeal to everyone if you're after something a bit more low-key.

Been coming to pub for the past few years now. The food is always amazing, the atmosphere is delightful and the service is remarkable. Some of my best moments have been spent in this pub and I’m confident it will continue to expand even more in the future.

The home of English Rugby, I still went in. The Sun Inn is a glorious Richmond pub with plenty of rugby pictures and trinkets. Good selection of both cask and keg beers on offer. Great service from the island bar courtesy of the wonderful staff. Love the famous picture of Fran Cotton just after his bath! Super pub!

My favourite pub in Richmond! Cracking atmosphere with lots of cosy booths and high tables with stools. The food is banging - we had the steak pie and chips, with some small plates. Lovely place to spend a Saturday afternoon watching sports on the screens.

Been going to this family run pub for the last 32 years. Best pub in Richmond for good traditional pub food and who are not afraid to experiment with their chef’s specials. Joe’s Steak Pie (comes with chips & peas), Sausage & Mash and Margy’s Homemade Beef Chilli are my favs.

The Sun Inn is a pub in Richmond-upon-Thames, England. It is a popular spot for rugby players and fans, and has a reputation for its hearty fare and real ale. The pub has a large outdoor seating area, which is perfect for sunny days. The Sun Inn has a mixed bag of reviews online. Some people love the pub, while others find it to be overpriced and overrated. The most common complaints are about the high prices, slow service, and inconsistent quality of food. However, there are also many people who rave about the pub's atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food. Overall, the Sun Inn is a decent pub with a loyal following. If you're looking for a place to watch a rugby match or enjoy a pint of real ale, the Sun Inn is a good option. However, if you're on a budget or looking for a more upscale dining experience, you may want to look elsewhere.
