About This Pub
You know, when I think about the Orange Tree, it's got that real homely feel that makes you want to pop in for a pint or a bite after a wander around Richmond. The staff really stand out – they're so upbeat and helpful, like that server Tyrese who's all about making sure you're sorted, whether it's tweaking an order or chatting about the menu. The food's a winner too, with fresh dishes that hit the spot for everything from a quick brunch to watching the footie with a group. And being right on the high street, it's just perfect for nabbing a table outside on a sunny day or cosying up inside. On the flip side, I've heard a few tales of bookings going awry, like tables that don't quite fit the crowd, or meals that drag on a bit longer than you'd hope, which can take the edge off an otherwise lovely evening. If you're considering the rooms for an overnight, it might not be as polished as the pub itself, with some niggles that could use sorting. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed get-together, but maybe best to keep it to the pub side if you're after a seamless experience – just my two pence worth from what I've gathered!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly and full of energy, making every visit feel warm and welcoming, just like chatting with mates at your local.
-
They've got a cracking selection of fresh, seasonal food and drinks, from classic pub grub to indulgent sharers, perfect for soaking up the atmosphere during live sports or a lazy afternoon.
-
The spot's got a lovely cosy vibe with elegant décor and fireside nooks, right on Richmond High Street, making it ideal for a relaxed catch-up or enjoying the area's buzz.
-
It's super family-friendly and dog-friendly, which adds a nice touch for those wanting to bring the little ones or the furry friend along for the fun.
Cons
-
Occasionally, table bookings can be a bit of a squeeze, like when groups end up needing to shuffle things around themselves, which puts a damper on the experience.
-
Service might hit a snag now and then, with kitchen delays meaning your meal doesn't arrive all at once, even if the team are quick to offer a comp to make up for it.
-
If you're eyeing a stay in the rooms, some might not live up to expectations, like finding a few things not quite right, which could leave you a tad disappointed after a great evening downstairs.

Came to the Orange Tree for a drink- Tyrese and Alex were absolutely amazing and had incredible energy. It is lovely to be served by someone who has such a positive attitude.
We will definitely be coming here again!
Booked a table for 12 people but we could hardly fit eight on it so WE had to drag another table over. Serving Staff were friendly and helpful but let down by the kitchen when one dish did not come out until 30 mins after the first had arrived. Comp drinks given but it did put a dampener on the meal.
Tyreese is the most positive, friendly, proactive server. He was so accommodating when we changed our order, he helped us navigate the menu when our choice of wine was unavailable, he was informative, patient and so helpful. This is the kind of traditional, personal, bespoke service pubs are lacking and he is an asset to your business
Pub of two halves really, downstairs the bar area was excellent, our waitress superb and the food was pretty good as well, lots of it and good quality. The hotel area however was really disappointing, we were in room 10 where the toilet seat was broken when we arrived and the toilet continued to flush or at least release water from the cistern every 30 minutes or so throughout the night. There was a locked connecting door to the adjacent room which would be great for families but offered zero soundproofing through the night and morning. I would visit it to eat but definitely look to stay elsewhere next time we visit Richmond.
Really did not enjoy.
Booked a Sunday lunch for 3 for my birthday. Came in and was sat at a table and I asked to sit at a booth, we were not allowed because of other bookings and they could not swap tables around - okay whatever. No one came to these tables for ages, and one table was empty for the duration of our stay.
We were left on our own - not even told if we should order from the bar or we’d be attended to at the table. Eventually one of us had to go to the bar to ask what we should do- they said a waiter would be over soon. After about 15 minutes (in a not busy room) a waitress came over and took our orders. 3 different roasts plus hummus tk start.
It took like half an hour for our food to come out. My friends enjoyed theirs but the hummus didn’t come so we cancelled it. I had the roast beef - it was so bad. Chewy and tasteless. My Yorkshire pudding was bad. Didn’t finish it, didn’t try the cauliflower cheese as the main dish was so bad. Asked for the bill and it hadn’t come after nearly 10 minutes so we paid at the bar. Would not reccomend.
Disabled toilet/baby change door did not lock - it was right next to the dining room so this is not safe. Downstairs women’s toilets were terrible. One toilet had no lock. No loo roll in the holder so simply plonked on top of it. No care put into this place. Not worth the price of a visit and not worth your time. Whole experience was bad.
